  • My Dyson died

After only 5 months. WTF? Seriously. Of course I decided to vacuum after their help line has closed for the day. I'm super pissed. I'm wondering if I should try cleaning the filter before I call them tomorrow. It'll have 12 hours to dry. But I really wanted the floors to be nice and clean when DH gets back from his call.

When I looked up the symptoms on their website, it said "Please don't use your machine before talking to a technician." AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

              Re: My Dyson died

Let us know what they say. Mine stopped sucking a few months ago and I used it and I couldn't figure out why. I have the DC-14 and on the bottom left in the back there is a place where the suction area pops open to clear jams (like sucking up a toy). Once I realized that was open it was fine, so check every connection, hose, etc. and make sure nothing has come loose and then call.

That sucks but I'm sure they have a warranty.

                Re: My Dyson died

I've had crap get stuck in that section as well- like two pens and a cat toy. Hmmm, no wonder there was no suction.

Do let us know what they say.

                I can't believe a Dyson died.

I can't imagine you had anything worse on your floors than what mine has sucked up.

I'm with Luanne. Let me know what the path report says.

                    Re: My Dyson died

Yup, that's the first thing I did, open up the bottom and clear all the hair out (the only thing there). Still waiting for the filter to dry, it's been 14 hours so far. Want to try it out with washed filter before I call. Will definitely let you know what happens.

I would be super pissed as well. I'm assuming you have the 5 year warranty?

                        Re: My Dyson died -UPDATE

It took about 24 hours for the filter to dry but that wasn't the problem to begin with. The tech over the phone said it's the power button problem and I have to take it in for repair, but it's covered by the warranty. The closest place is 45 minutes away and I can't make an appt until Tuesday. Meanwhile my floors are disgusting. And it's only been 5 months!!!

                          Re: My Dyson died

Hope you get it fixed soon. One of the reasons I opted against a Dyson was because the speciatly vacuum place where I bought our new vacuum, the owner said he sees more repairs made on Dysons than any other brand, and he has them sitting around the shop the longest waiting to get parts. At the time he had a Dyson waiting for over a week waiting for a part from headquarters.

                          Good luck!

                            Re: My Dyson died

It's still not fixed. I've been to the repair shop twice already and have to go back again tomorrow. Did I mention that it's a 45 minute drive each way? First time, they actually had Dyson people in and referred the problem to them. At that point I was told there's nothing wrong with it but they opened it up to take a look anyway. We plugged it in at the store and it worked. I take it home and it doesn't work. Two days later, I go back and find out that the power button had a faulty spring from the beginning and needed replacement (this time the Dyson people were gone and it was the repair shop owner who worked on it). We plug it in and it works, I take it home to discover that now the button that turns the brushes on and off is not working. I called the shop back to ask the guy what I should do and he said, just bring it in. If I mail it back to Dyson, I may never see it again or in best case scenario be without a vacuum for a month. He also told me that he sees 5-6 Dysons a week and they're not the most reliable machines out there. At this point DH and I are wondering if we should adjust our house looking to be closer to the repair shop. I'm never buying another Dyson again.

Sorry that you're having to jump through the hoops.

I've tried out my friend's Dyson, and I don't get it. I'd rather spend that kind of money on German engineering - a Miele. Consider it. They're not as loud, either.
