Here are a couple of life lessons I've learned in the last six weeks that I'll share with you in hopes of preventing similar stupidity.
1) If you start your car and shut the door to scrape of ice, newer vehicles will automatically lock themselves after three minutes. This lesson cost me $65 and an hour of hitting my hand upside my head saying "DOH". Thank goodness Kendall wasn't in the car staying warm while I scraped off ice and snow. The reason that I'm just NOW finding this out is that I typically park in a garage but tried this little trick the Day after Christmas when visiting my mom.
2) If you have a newer garbage disposal, it has an 'automatic reset' button located underneath so that the motor doesn't burn itself out. Additionally, there is a funny little wrench that will open it underneath. The cost of not knowing this and placing a claim for an uncovered event with the Home Warranty Service: $60.
My car goes in Tuesday because I'm going through a container of engine coolant every other week. I can only imagine what fun vehicle ownership lesson I'm up for.
They really ought to have classes on this type of stuff to protect us from ourselves.
