  • A new obsession

    Not as bad as etsy...yet.

I've been the iVillage Garden Web forums on kitchens. There is a ton of information here and lots of posted photos and plan sketches. I haven't yet ventured into the garden forums but that looks promising as well. I've been searching on specific topics and finding great stuff.

    Re: A new obsession

The gardening section is enormous! I've been looking for mountain garden info... will have to browse. I'm not even going to let myself get sucked into the scrapbook section. Two message boards are enough for me.

Deb, I wish I could hand over my rocky mtn/higher altitude gardening experience to you. I don't need it here! I think I gave away all my books before we moved. There is a catalog focused on western gardening:
      http://www.highcountrygardens.com/

I might be fun to flip through the catalog (in all your spare time, of course ). ETA: They have retail stores near you, lucky girl!
      http://www.highcountrygardens.com/visit-us/

The other thing I like about the link I posted above -- I have found a couple of topics about worth the money or not, so glad (or not) I have x, and that sort of thing. Very helpful.

Oh no....I just took a quick peak. I have a feeling that site will eat up a lot of my free time.

:> Fair trade for all those etsy posts!

I found a kitchen on there that DH wants to "buy in a bottle" and pour out in our house. If only it were that easy.

            Re: A new obsession

THANKS for the link! DH & I will have to take a tour. You'd have to tie his hands behind his back to keep him from planting things, but I'd like to go into it with a good plan, since we don't know what we're doing up here.

Will you post a link to the kitchen your DH likes?

Sure! (I feel like the witch saying "come here, my pretty")

              http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/ki ... 12056.html

I emailed it to him because I like the herringbone pattern in the backsplash above the stove. That is my favorite part. I also think the granite is gorgeous, in part because it looks like soapstone. Scroll down to the second post -- the photos are posted and easier to see than the links in her first post.

If you search on "done" in the kitchen forum, you will get the posts with completed or 99% done or almost done kitchens. :wee: Have fun!

I need to wipe the drool off my keyboard! I love the tile and hood. Timeless.

                  That is gorgeous!

One question - is that a microwave/convection oven in the island? I only ask b/c my gf in Chicago has hers like that & I just don't get it! It seems like a disaster waiting to happen -- especially w/kids in the house (which she has). But even w/o kids, I would not want to pull a steaming bowl of soup from below my center ....

Jenn, it is a microwave drawer. I agree, it is not a great spot. However, that what I might end up doing with a microwave. I can't find a good place for it. I don't use it very often but I don't think I can get away with not having one.

We use this site quite a bit! Thanks to posts in forums, we were able to avoid trees that have been problematic here in the Valley!
DH can spend hours on there researching plants!

I like the second kitchen, too, except that it seems crowded. The ideas are good, though.

The first one - - beautiful! I like the color of the granite with the silver appliances. And I prefer wood floors in the kitchen. (We have slate here, and I'm afraid the kids will pull casserole dishes out and shatter them - plus they catch so much dirt in the crevices.)

Nellie, what have you done?? I had grand plans to clean today, but can't pull myself away from that site.

I just saw this mudroom on there and have been wanting something similar...

Oh, Nellie.....how could you do this to me? After all we've meant to each other?

I am going to waste so much time at that site! I wish I would have found out about it at the beginning of the summer instead of at the end!
