Accent walls aren't totally out (we've got one in our basement, so I hope they're not totally out). If the room has been painted for some time, even a color match will probably leave it pretty obvious that one wall is fresh. I think that works for a smaller space. Perhaps you could go a tick or two darker than the rest of the walls? It will give you a subtle accent wall and will blend nicely.

I agree with Jenn. I haven't tried color matching like that because I am a paint fiend and usually have another color in mind. I like her idea of going a shade or two darker than the other color. You could look at some of the photos on the Benjamin Moore site for ideas:
