Only 8 months? Yeah, probably a bad grout job. Between that and the climate, I think water damage is unlikely. Probably still a good idea to take a peek to be certain. Was anyone living there in those 8 months and using the shower before you bought the house? If that is beyond your DIY skills and you don't have a handyman, I can get a recommendation for you.

Nobody's lived in the house for about a year, as far as I know.
