I don't remember if I posted about these chairs or not. A few years ago, my grandmother started asking her kids and grandkids if there is anything they would like to request from her house. I have always associated a pair of princess chairs with visiting their house. She said that I could have them whenever I liked. Very sweet of her! I didn't have space until our current house and my mom drove them out to me about 2 years ago.
Two weeks ago I took them to be re-upholstered. They are...striking. I'm still getting used to them but do like them. My grandmother is spunky so I thought the chairs should be too. It is sort of a Willy Wonka meets mid-century modern, I think. They are not the focal point of the room and should work off to the side.
We also had a desk from my MIL refinished. It has been in her storage unit for 3 years and we decided to start chipping away at the stuff in there. Honestly, I was ready to give it away and I'm so glad DH insisted on fixing it up. Someone had tried to give it an antique finish with paint and replaced the glass with opaque plexiglass. It was hideous. The desk was made by his great-grandfather and per the furniture guy, is quarter-sawn oak in some places. DH definitely made a good call on it.
Chairs before (green was original fabric, from 1959 or so, the other had been recovered):
