  • New Tabletop

I am so excited! I love my dining set, but when I purchased it I didn't think about what a pia the grooves would be to clean and how it would create problems when doing homework. I was having to use wooden skewers to clean out the gunk and grime build up. Blech!

I came up with the idea to make a removeable top, so if we need to expand the table I can still do so.

Dh cut 1/4" MDF to match our current table top, which is a rectangle rounded at the head and end of the table. I then lined it with non-slip drawer liner to prevent scratching the table, and wrapped in oil cloth.

I think it turned it out nice.

    Enjoy!

This is the best photo I could find of our table before.

              MDF: medium density fiberboard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-density_fibreboard)

It's more sturdy than particle board, and has a smoother surface than plywood.

Niiice! My table is in such horrible shape and I keep putting off the refinishing; that's a FAB idea.

Ooh, neat! We have a new table and I'm terrified it's going to get scratched and/or watermarked. I was thinking a piece of plexiglas cut to fit but your solution is so cute!

I had a friend do this to her table but called a glass company, and they made a glass top for her table. She said it wasn't too pricey. I thought about doing this, but I need to be able to take the top off to expand the table when needed.
