I've determined that my wide plank pine (probably not original to the house, since it extends seamlessly into the part of the house that was added in the 1980s) would be happiest with daily damp-mopping (run a lightly water-misted dust mop around to pick up dust and grit that could grind down the finish), additional sweeping in high use areas (esp. the kitchen), and about bimonthly Bona cleaning (I feel like Murphy's is too slippery). Weekly Bona in the kitchen. If we didn't have sticky little people dropping food all over the freakin' place, and if we had a shoes-off policy, I could definitely see a semiyearly cleaning (with regular spot-cleaning) being enough.

In practice, I think I'm keeping up with the bimonthly cleaning (I stagger it to do one room at a time so it doesn't turn into a massive ordeal) but I'm probably weeks behind on dustmopping and sweeping -- I'm feeling swamped by the housework so I get to the floors when the roving packs of feral dustbunnies start intimidating the cats. :\

True that pets and small children will add to the frequency of the damp-mopping.

I just give thanks to the Dyson Pet model.

The Dyson Pet Model is great!!! But right now with the snow, then melting, it is time for a mopping. Maybe I will wait till spring LOL

I looked at our cat yesterday and thought, "It's time to do the floors." Even with shoes-off policy, no kids and closed windows, I can't believe how dusty the floors get. In the spring (pollen season) I have to dry Swifter at least every other day.

So I guess the fact that I have no cats, dogs, or kids is probably good for the floors.

The rabbit sheds, but she's in a cage, and that gets cleaned every few days.

It's probably the best thing you could do for your floors. I have fur from one of the house to the other.
