But microsuede is critical when you have husbands, kids or pets and you have all three.

Got leather in the not so formal living room because the fur just wipes off and microsuede in the den. They both have held up quite well - the slobber (I have a Golden) just wipes off the microsuede and the fur comes off nicely too.
You guys inspired me to buy yet another piece from an antique shop. It is more of an architectural piece (part of an old mantle) that I plan on using as wall art?? or maybe put it over a doorway?? Don't know really - wish I could just see things and say "that's the way it is going to be" but until then, I will have to play with it. I love it though.
Glad to hear others are not pro granite. I need to get new countertops. I love the look of butcher block (saw it in a magazine) but have heard that it will be a nightmare to maintain. I saw this butcher block stuff at IKEA that looked like an alternative but was not sure how long it would last. SO, still looking. Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I have some friends who just installed Ikea butcher block counter tops. They haven't had any complaints, and I love the look. I think the key is not to treat them as your cutting board.Julia - legislative process lover and general government nerd, married to a PICU & Medical Ethics attending, raising a toddler son and expecting a baby daughter Oct '16.
