  • Self carpet cleaner

    Hey gang,

I need two recommendations. One for a large area carpet cleaner, I know there are these sprays and these powders that you can use on larger areas, do they work? Which one have you used and like.

Secondly a spot cleaner, like when the dog throws up or a dirty diaper leaks?

Our carpets are about 3 years old and we'll have them professionally cleaned before we put it on the market next spring but I'd like to do something in the mean time to clean them more regularly. I don't want to have to rent a steamer or buy an expensive piece of equipment.

    Thanks!

I swear by Nylac spray. As far as I know, you can only get it at the hardware store, but we've used it on just about everything imaginable, and the only thing it failed me on was cherry diet dr. pepper (which the professional carpet cleaner failed to get out, too). It's in a white bottle with a red sprayer.

For dog issues/dirty diaper leaks, I would use Nature's Miracle. Luv that stuff has never let me down. For the big areas, I have been pleased with Resolve (both powder and foam spray) BUT it leaves a residue and I think in high traffic areas it attracts the dirt. I finally gave up on the big areas and would just rent the carpet cleaning machines when the carpet needed it. Carpet is nasty though - so hard to really clean. I am anxious to hear what others use.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

OxyClean Woolite (or something close to that) has been good to us. Animal vomit, food, etc. We use it rarely but I appreciate that the smell fades very quickly and it takes the stains out.

Spot shot for stains (like food), Nature's Miracle for bio stains (like vomit/diaper)

I had a Bissell Green Machine for small spots and a Hoover SteamVac for larger areas, when we had carpet. In either I'd load it up with super hot water and oxi clean, BioKleen Bac-Out, some vinegar solution or a little Dr. Bronner's soap depending on the nature of the stain.

We tend to buy multicolor weaver Berber carpet, it hides everything.

I have a Bissell Little Green Machine Spot Bot, and it is fantastic. It's great because it's really portable, not too expensive, and I can cart it out to the car to clean those carpets too.

We used to have this too. I LOVED it so much I burnt the motor out eventually, it was great while it lasted though

Complete threadjack but the dude was in the car a few weeks back with Rick and me and he was talking about floors for whatever reason. Out of the blue he says, "Mommy, I wish we had that cushion floor like Mama does [my mom]" I was kind of stumped for a few seconds and finally I got it- he was talking about their carpeting. We don't have any carpeting except upstairs where he's not allowed. Apparently it's way better to do Legos on 'cushion floor.'

He is so cute. Go to a carpet store and let him pick out a couple of his favorite carpet remnants for his legos!

Carpet Cleaning machine is made for normal maintenance and not heavy duty cleaning. You can use carpet brush to remove soil ,dust from your carpet.Start vacuuming the rug on both sides to remove dirt.To remove dirt and debris from your stairs, use a stiff brush and scrub the stairs, starting from the top stair and working your way down.
