What kind of window treatments do you have?

I've been researching the world of window treatments, and I'm wondering whether people have custom window treatments or store-bought. I've never had to think about this before as I've always lived in rentals before we bought our house. While the house comes with shades, there are no valances or draperies, and the windows need some jazzing up. I've looked at custom window treatments, which are gorgeous but expensive, as compared to store bought.

DH really wants custom window treatments. He's more than happy to spend hours at the upholstery store with me! We haven't yet priced anything out though, though I can imagine it's going to be a shocker, just like everything else we've ordered for the house!

I've been spending some time at Calico Corners, and love their fabrics and custom window treatment options there. Has anyone had anything made there--pillows, window treatments, etc.?

I have far too many pets for any kind of fabric window treatment so I have the shutters that were here when we moved in (and in South Texas you have to have a way to block out the sun). In the DC house I ordered all of the blinds (various styles) from Smith and Noble (online.) When I got to the house in March I noticed that the kitchen blind was broken so I call S & N to see if they still had the measurements (they did- she said they keep them 12-15 years) but she said not to worry, they'd send me a box and restring the blind for free. In three weeks it was back, as good as new.

We are in the process of ordering window treatments. I ordered 2 sets from Smith and Noble for the kitchen and our bedroom and nearly passed out at the final price. We still have several other windows left to dress and am dreading it. I hate the large windows that have to have some custom treatments because store bought will not work.

We moved into a house with nothing on the windows. Since then, I've been working on getting it in shape - I've purchased everything from justblinds.com - cellular blackouts, cellular light filtering, faux wood blinds, and "shangri-la"
They're the cheapest I've found, and I've been happy with all their stuff.

We don't plan on putting any up, except in our bedrooms. The views are too beautiful. It helps we live in the middle of nowhere

We have Levelor (sp??) blinds from Lowes in our sunroom (off the master bedroom) and they look beautiful. Got them on a BIG sale. Have JCPenney roman shades in the living room--again, huge sale and they look really nice. And they are "light blocking" when fully extended. Otherwise, we don't have much other than light-blocking curtains in the kids' room (from Target).

I love Calico Corners but I haven't been able to justify it. We're still slowly adding on basics -- furniture, bigger cars, more kids, etc. When I'm ready to invest in custom windows that's the store I'd likely go to. The fabrics are gorgeous!
