  • Since I've *almost* given up on my 100 year old house

with the exception of torturing myself with how great it could be if we had ... you know ... a million bucks to dump into it to make it fabulous lol I'm sort of in a redecorating mode.

I currently have a sofa/loveseat in my living room that I got for $160 total from the second hand shop. I fully had plans of having the wood refinished and getting them reupholstered. They aren't terrible, but style-wise, they don't fit. Their condition is also ... acceptable, but not good or very good.

My goal is a sort of old victorian-esque style.

I found these on one of my multiple trips to craigslist

    http://stcloud.craigslist.org/atq/2069395794.html

I talked to the woman who owns the store and they were purchased by the family in 1930 and had been in the same family. I get to have that almost 100 year old feeling without plumbing and electrical problems, right?

So .... what do you guys think? My biggest concern is smell. The $160 set that I bought absolutely stunk of cigarette smoke. I didn't realize it until after they delivered it. It sat outside most of the rest of the summer to air out. We didn't bring it in except when it was going to rain.

What else should I think about?

They look good- I'd check the underneath part- check to see how they're made- springs or not kind of thing. Smells can make a huge difference- but if they're in a store I bet they've been aired out pretty well.

The only other thing is that if they're truly Victorian, they're often really low to the ground so make sure you sit in them!

Infestations! With the whole bedbug thing, I keep hearing about used furniture/stored furniture.
