My mom purchased an expensive Maytag a few years ago, and the thing was nothing but trouble. She got a top-loader, and the drama ended.
Although, I know that the newer Maytag models aren't what they used to be, so YMMV.
I've also heard that top loading machines are better for cloth diapering, but again... not sure.
