  • Bath towels rec?

I just returned $200 in towels to Nordstrom. We'd had them for three weeks, used and washed them a few times, chucked out the receipts, took them back, and got a refund!

Even after washing them 3-4 times, our lint catcher was full each and every time. They left a layer of lint on all the bathroom surfaces, and I never felt completely dry (because they were microcotton).

Do you have any recommendations for nice ones? I'd like to get a dark grey, sage, or dark brown, so towels that keep their color well through many washings would be great!

The ones we had been using were over 10 years old, and now we're back to using them again until I can find some new ones.

We have Suite Collection from Bed Bath & Beyond, and I'm really happy with them. They're just white, so I can't vouch for fading. Ours are Egyptian Cotton, though, and it looks like they only have micro cotton now.

I use my cloth diaper detergent (Rockin' Green) on them, and it makes them really soft. I've also heard that fabric softener makes towels less absorbent, but I haven't tried skipping it.

I second the TJ MAxx. That's the only place I get our towels from.

Same here about TJ Maxx.(Or Home Goods, same company) The bath sheets are always 7.99 and I've found them to be great quality.

The Vera Wang towels @ Kohl's are pretty good. Kohls used to carry a line called " Luxury Collection " that were great( mine still are in great shape). I wash my towels on high settings and try them on the "very dry" setting. This setting is actually 2 settings above the "normal dry" setting. I will actually go in to clean the lint trap out during the drying cycle so I can make sure I maximize the amount of lint it pulls from them.

We have Lenox towels, 70% cotton and 30% bamboo. I didn't buy them so I don't know what colors they have, but I'm sure they have a good variety.

As an aside, I will never buy colored face towels again. No matter how well I rinse my face, I always manage to discolor them, probably because of the toothpaste.

I made finding towels made in the USA my mission last winter and finally after flipping through a billion pages of towels on the Macys website, I found excellent towels- the cotton is grown on microfarms in Africa and then milled and woven here in the states- I got to be virtuous AND dry. They're great. I got them from Macys but I checked and they're on sale at Amazon right now- http://www.amazon.com/1888-Mills-Lux...6405263&sr=1-4

I think it is both hilarious and wonderful that the most flagrantly liberal person on our board is also the one that routinely posts how to buy things "Made in the USA" - information that I both appreciate and put to use. When I was a kid, the "Buy American" bumper sticker was a pretty good indicator that the driver was Republican. Maybe in the future, "Coexist" bumper stickers will be on the backs of Republican vehicles, huh?

I get mine at Costco. Always look for micro cotton (maybe it's the brand that's off). Every time we have guests (once a month or more), they rave about the towels.

I second the recommendation for Lenox towels. I have had zero issues with fading, and they're still pretty soft, even after a couple years.

Normally I am a huge penny pincher, but I've somewhat come to splurge when it comes to towels. We picked these out for our wedding, and LOVE them! They are from Macy's, so they are usually on sale. Super fuzzy, soft, warm!

Our towels are crappity crap -- I'm going to take some of these suggestions and do a little research. DH likes scratchy rough ones (blech!) and I prefer the big fluffy ones. A house divided

We went with Macy's Hotel Turkish. I checked them out at the store and went home again to buy them online at 15% off (through tomorrow). We just couldn't decide on a color, but the limited stock in the store and online sort of answered the color question for us.
