  • Broken toilet

So our chain to the flapper thing in the toilet ( very technical I know) is broken. We have 2 other bathrooms in our home. I say we just go to home depot and buy another one for like 5 bucks and fix it our selves. Dh wants to call the landlord. Thus meaning I have to deal with all of it.
    Thoughts?

I'd fix it myself too - if he really wants the landlord called then tell him you did and fix it yourself. Google it

Very easy fix. I did that at our last place and when we saw the landlord next (he mowed the lawn) I mentioned it to him - just so he knew that we were taking care of small things along the way.

Fix it yourself and tell him the landlord did it. See my post about second opinions (DH and the Tree Guy)!!!

Yeah, easiest fix ever. Don't bug your landlord with piddly stuff like this. They will appreciate it and you'll get more mileage when big stuff goes south.

Jeez. Definitely just replace or repair the chain yourself. Might not hurt to let the landlord know, but don't make them fix it. That's way more hassle than it's worth.

I fixed it, but the toilet will not stop running, so i may need to have him look at it. He is set to come over and do some tother things soon anyways

"won't stop running" sounds to me like the chain is now too short, so it's keeping the seal at the bottom from sealing, which keeps the tank from filling up.

The toilet is old. It is the black bobber looking thing. The metal part is bent. The seal is great with the flapper part, just now I have this. The constant running has been going on for quite some time. Over 6 months.

Have you tried adjusting the float? Toilets will continue to fill until the float arm lifts completely. maybe it's stuck?

The black blobber thing is the float. If it is running is because the tank isn't filling with water. The only way the water will keep leaking out is if the flap at the bottom of the tank is not seating correctly. It can be a pain to replace the whole flap/seal combo and I would leave that to the landlord.
