  • Waffle Iron and Popcorn Popper

I killed them both. Anyone have any recommendations for either or both? We eat waffles at least a couple times a month and Sundays are popcorn days so I need machines that will LAST.

I will be buried with my Stir Crazy popcorn popper. I make popcorn 3-4 times a week. I'm taking it with me to Florida on Saturday. The first one I had for 6 years or so when the bowl cracked. I just ended up buying a new one bc it was less hassle then trying to replace the bowl. I've had this one for 4 years. I've found that canola oil or vegetable oil works the best. The Orville butter oil gums it up...so does olive oil. I melt butter separately and pour it over after it's done. I don't use the vent/butter melter (it's not an even application of butter). I am aware of my unnatural obsession with popcorn.

We have an antique cast-iron waffle maker that is AMAZING. I think we got it from the ILs, but they are still around. I guarantee that thing will LAST.

I ended up with a Belgian waffle maker from Cuisinart and a generic air popped popcorn popper- Macy's was having a free delivery day for $99 worth of stuff so I threw in some glass storage containers and then got 10% of for the code of the day- through ebates of course.

I bought the one I linked to. It is beyond cool. I plan to try it out this week.

I made sure to bring my popcorn popper to Florida. I get here, take it out of the van and my mom says, "oh, I have the same one. I bought it after we visited you bc your dad liked your popcorn so much.".

You'll have to let me know how that one works, ST. And if it really does hold 1/2 cup unpopped kernels after they've all popped. The Stir Crazy says it's 6 qt and I use 1/2 cup Orville original kernels and it's pretty full, just enough room for me to toss the popped corn around for the butter. That microwave one says it's only 2.5 qt...

When I make kettle corn I use a big stock pot. But I only make that a few times a year bc I don't like it.

Another one that pops in a big pot with a lid. But one of these days I may invest in a Whirley Pop

I'm a popcorn FANATIC and have tried out many different popcorn makers trying to make the best, but I prefer the pot with some corn oil (over medium heat) the best so far. Toss a spoonful of butter in with it and it's the so yummy. DH said if he matches in Florida and we get to stay at our house I can get a big tabletop popcorn maker like they have at the fair!

So I tried out the glass one I posted earlier and I like it. There are still a decent number of unpopped kernals at the bottom when it is done, but I'm hoping adjusting microwave settings will help. The butter dripping setup at the top is genius--perfectly coated popcorn.

Not for those that have a small microwave though--ours is on the small end and it is a tight fit.

Oh, and Michele was right. No way 1/2 cup of kernels is fitting in there. I'd say 1/3 cup would be about right.
