Tablecloths (and kids)

How do you keep your tablecloth on your table? Mine all slide around, especially with the kids leaning on the table and pulling things.

I've tried going without a tablecloth, but then I feel like I can't ever get the wood clean.

Placemats run into similar issues.

I'm about ready to put Velcro on the underside of the table and on the cloths. That or snaps or something.

What do you do?

They make little clips to help keep tablecloths on. Have you tried that rug/drawer liner stuff?

Placemats. And dirty wood.

I used a little painter's masking tape to attach the tablecloth under the tabletop. I was worried that the kids would pull things off the table.

I've lost the tablecloth and just use wipes to clean up the table after each meal. Niiiice.

The rubbery drawer liner stuff sticks to the wood and leaves a residue. I've never seen the clips but I might not be looking for the right thing/in the right place.

No to the table clothes with kids, way to much work IMO. When I was on the ball and the older kids were little I used to line the table with butcher paper and put crayons out. It kept the kids entertained at dinner, was tons tons of fun, and when it was dirty or too full to color I would just throw it in the trash. Your kiddos are the perfect age for this.

I use Method Wood for Good wipes, but I still have lots of food residue, so I think I'm going the tablecloth route soon and will watch this thread with interest...

Our solution is a table we really don't care about. It's totally marked up. We use plastic placemats for the kids.

It sucks.

I think I won't try a nice dining room table until the youngest is about 8 or so.

I had a tile-topped table when my kids were young. I didn't like it for other reasons, but it did alleviate the need for a tablecloth.

The boy has his own table. One for eating. One for school. The dining room table is only for school. Well, the girls eat at it sometimes. We're lame.

We also have a crap kitchen table. It's so bad that when I accidentally gouged it last week, I just shrugged. The wood cleans fine though, so not sure why yours isn't??? (probably BECAUSE mine is so bad that I don't mind scraping the hell out of it...)

We bought a beautiful new table set for our dining room this year (January) and have yet to actually sit at it.
