  • Kitchen - cooktop vs oven

So we are trying to decide if we want a six burner cooktop with separate wall double ovens or if we want an actual duel fuel range with one separate wall oven.

The second wall oven would be this http://products.geappliances.com/App...Sku=PSB2201NSS - its a combo microwave/convection oven/oven.

DH wants a professional grade cooktop or range, like these:

    http://www.sears.com/kitchenaid-pro-...1&blockType=G1

    or

    http://www.sears.com/kitchenaid-pro-...5&blockType=G5

Maybe not these exact brands/models but like these.

Anyone have thoughts/preferences/reasons? We really can't decide or know how to decide...

We have a gas cook top separate from the double ovens. DH and I are foodies and love to cook together. This set up really helps us navigate around the kitchen. For example, there is no more of me moving out of his way while I am stirring something and he is trying to peek in on whatever he is broiling.

I think it depends on how may people are usually in the kitchen.

BTW - I would definitely go for 6 burners vs 4 and a griddle - which is what we have. The damn griddle is a PITA to clean - so, we rarely use it.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I would gladly give someone an ovary in trade for two wall-mounted ovens...

If you think you'll sell ever, I'd do wall mounted with a range. Make sure the wall oven is large, though.

Oh we'll sell in 5-10 years or so if we stay here, this isn't our forever house - but why the range if we plan to sell?

The 2nd wall oven will be the advantium because I don't want to also make room for a counter or wall microwave because we're going to do a hood above the range/cooktop, not a microwave like we currently have.

We are definitely getting a 6 burner not a 4 with the griddle.

I wrote range - Because I'm tired and wrote a conflicting post. I'd do a wall oven with separate cooktop if you're planning to sell because it's on many people's "must have" list for a high end kitchen.

We've been to a lot of open houses lately (just because I'm nosey) and it seems like all the other houses in our neighborhood have big, gorgeous Viking ranges. That's what I would go for if I was upgrading my kitchen right now, but I think a lot if these trends are geography dependent.

I have a viking. Will never spend the money on that again.

We aren't getting a Viking (or a Blue Star or many other over priced ovens!), they get horrible reviews - the professional style Kitchenaid gets good reviews though and is much cheaper!

I think that is one reason we're having a hard time deciding, we live in a posh neighborhood. A lot of the houses like ours have professional grade kitchens but we have a separate cooktop now I really like having the storage underneath it. Although I guess I'd get the same storage in place of the 2nd wall oven...

I think the only appliance we will probably "splurge" on is the Meile dishwasher. I LOVE my Meile dishwasher. It will cost less then the advantium but is still pricey for a dishwasher.

I've drooled over that at Lowes.

The Vikings look like a PITA to clean.

We have separate cooktop and two ovens. The cooktop is a 5 burner and although I don't like the brand, I like the style.

I never knew that about Vikings. We don't cook a ton, so all my kitchen decisions are pretty much based on aesthetics.

I absolutely love my Blue Star. I like that I could get the exact configuration that I wanted. I cook a lot and 6 burners is perfect for that (not all are the same). But I don't bake as much, so only one of my double ovens gets used, the other one is basically a storage cabinet. I do wish I could replace them for gas (they're electric) but don't want to touch them while they work.

We have considered taking out the bottom one (and the useless drawer underneath) and putting a wine fridge instead. We might do it one day.
