  • Nursery Ideas

We will be moving to an apartment in July and will have 3 months before baby arrives. It's a two bedroom, good size and the nursery will also act as a guest bedroom - guests will be family (my Mom, sisters) and will mostly be around during the first few months while the baby is still in our room.
The complex paints two accent walls in a color of our choice so I have picked a purple/grey with the rest of the walls beige for the guest room/nursery. I hope it's not too purple since we're having a boy!
I'm looking for other ways to decorate that will not be permanent. I'm planning on doing a large-ish painting (would do a mural if it was our own house) that will be the main feature. Right now my ideas range from a collage style with classic cartoon characters to a farm theme. I'd like some blue and earth tones.
I was thinking of making a mobile too. Any ideas on themes or what else I could make/get to fit in with it?

I think the farm theme sounds cute! I love removable decals. They cover a lot of wall space inexpensively, and you don't have to fill in holes or repaint when you move out.

Sounds like you've got some good ideas already! Farm sounds fun, and something he's likely to enjoy long term. I had some friends get a nice quilt and hang it on the wall. I also like the idea of letters in the baby's name. One friend got the letters and decoupaged, or just put scrapbook paper on them.

Ladymoreta, I'd never heard of removable decals. What a great idea! Perfect for a rental.

Alotofyarn, I love quilts. My Mom is a quilter and I suspect she is working on one. Never thought of the name thing. I love thing I can make myself.
        Thanks so much ladies!

I made a 6' tree with owls as a removable decal for our nursery wall out of contact paper. I just got regular white contact paper (the stuff made for lining shelves and drawers) then I painted it the color I wanted and traced a blown up image I found on the internet. Since I wanted something larger than the contact paper roll I just cut out the pieces individually like the trunk, branches, leaves, etc. and then put them together on the wall. An easy, cheap way to make decals and you can make any image/color you want. It's been on the wall a few years now and still looks great.

Civil spouse, I will definitely give that a try. I love the though of making my own stuff. Thanks!

Allison, that bedding is fabulous. I don't like very busy, cluttered designs so it's perfect.
