  • Gutter heeellllp!

OK, so we are in the midst of having our house painted. In order to get the trim done, the painters took down all the gutter downspouts. They laid them around our yard near where they came down, and one ended up in the driveway. I had about 4 inches clearance to drive my minivan around it into the garage, so lazy ass that I am, I left it lying there instead of moving it off farther to the side. See where this is going? I was distracted pulling in earlier this week and flattened about 4 feet of aluminum.

We've been on a DIY kick so I felt confident I could fix it, maybe even just replace a little portion of the downspout and we'd be good to go. Well, no. After a week of trying to get parts, I'm starting to realize this is going to mean a brand new downspout (thanks to sealers the pieces that are still intact won't come apart) from like $30+ of materials, maybe new tools (can a regular hacksaw go through aluminum?) and a good chance of effing it up.

So in order to explore all my options I'm ready to call someone and see what it would cost for them to do it for me. But...who do I call??? I'm thinking maybe our general handyman (though DH is not a huge fan of him lately after the last repair job he did around the house)? Or a specialty gutter service? Or the gutter cleaners I've used before? I am completely stuck and completely sick to my stomach because I haven't even admitted yet to DH what I did.

Heellllpp! Stupid homeowner batsignal going up!!

I'd call gutter people. Don't beat yourself up--- the gutters are surprisingly flimsy. Gutter specialists might have the size you need for a quick fix.

I would definitely call a gutter company - the guys that put our new ones on last summer had a nifty little work shop in their truck they cut and shaped everything to size on the spot.
Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.
