We just moved into a house a week ago. From the Jacob Delafon electric two-button toilets and bidets (!!!) to the sub-zero fridge, it's an exercise in conspicuous consumption. But the worst offendor is the Fisher Paykel two drawer dishwasher. It's absolutely horrible. I've tried to fix it myself, and have the correct part on order for the bottom drawer, and now the top drawer is giving me an error code I can't fix. I'm almost resigned to calling in a service person (you have to call one of their referrals - nobody else is willing to touch a Fisher Paykel). Has anybody had experience with one of these monsters?

Good gravy!!! Call and order an extended warranty on your dishwasher if it is not still under the original manufacture installation warranty.
After you have assured that you have a current warranty, then call in for your repair guy ...that way you will have paid the fee for the warranty and nothing else. I do not have the model you're mentioning, I did however save by doing it this way! I paid $99.00 for my warranty. The service/diagnostic fee, parts & labor would have been close to $150.00. Good luck!

I agree. Will never, ever buy a viking or a subzero. The fancy smancy whirpool front loader washer can go along that bunch. It had to be repaired after 1 year. My old Maytags lived for 14!! Yes, they may have been energy/water hogs BUT cleaned and dried my clothes for 14 years!
The fancy toilet, I do not know what we have BUT that is all DH. I will not go near it.Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

My parents had a FP 2-drawer dishwasher. BIG FAT PITAMy dad attempted to fix them, one ended up smoking????? They eventually just replaced it with a regular dishwasher, as certain parts are $$$ to order, and it wasn't worth the headache. Sorry that your new house is already a time and money pit

I was looking into dishwashers recently because ours was on the fritz. The clear consensus among online reviews was that the F&P were crap. I'm so sorry.
(My SubZero is also starting to act up, second time in a year -- the warranty is incredible and the service last year was actually under warranty, but I'm scared to even call this time.)Alison

My parents have had 2 fisher paykel 2 drawers. The first was a replacement for the 2nd provides by the company after my mom went to war. Both never really worked and they finally replaced them with a normal one. Obviously these things have big issues. Cool idea, bad execution.Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

My brother gave us a FP washing machine. We have to manually advance it every few cycles. It beeps, you go and push the next button. Sigh. I miss the Kenmore that wouldn't die. That sucker was awesome but not new like the FP and was missing a knob.Veronica

Ugh, what a giant pain. The nice thing about us building was that we were able to pick our appliances. I don't have any experience with any of those brands (they get terrible ratings as unfortunately you have found the reason why...). I didn't even know there was such a thing as an electric toilet?! Sorry, no advice or BTDT, just sympathy. Are you enjoying the house otherwise?

The house is OK - it's got central a/c, which is amazing, and didn't need alot of work. The ridiculous appliance perks are really annoying. The crazy thing is that some people _look_ for crap like this when they're buying a house. Like our new master bath - it's an apartment unto itself. Who needs this stuff? But I just had somebody reject our previous home because our master bath was too small. Go figure. I guess when we sell this house, somebody will come along who has a thing for electric toilets and non-functioning Kiwi dishwashers.Enabler of DW and 5 kids

Darn thing takes FORever to fill and is a PITA to clean. However, that is some people's dream tub.
Our next house is definitely going to be more practical yet we know that we can't go too far because, as you said, for resale purposes you have to have the over the top stuff. Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Sorry I can't give you any advice...other than to share the thought: once you've paid for some super-specialist to come out and for the parts and labor, it may be cheaper to just buy a normal washer...a Maytag or something. Which would probably work better, anyway.

We're in the Boston area.
I'm inclined to ditch the dishwasher and go buy something at Sears, but we're just going to try this one repair and see how it goes.
As far as the big tub with the jets, I was also a nonbeliever, but after a tough day moving furniture, it was as close to paradise as I've been lately. Decadent but so nice.Enabler of DW and 5 kids
