My brother joked that he was going to call Holmes on Homes for our house. I wish he did.
I miss cable! The last home show I remember seeing was Trading Spaces on TLC and the designers on that were mostly nuts.

I'm not a huge HGTV fan, but I did see a show once where professionals ran into people at Loews or Home Depot and asked them what they were planning to do and then professionals did it. Um, YES PLEASE!!!In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.

And, because of the wacky old light fixture in my main bath is starting to crap out on me, I think I am going to have to start the bathroom remodel about 3 years ahead of schedule. The mirror and light are one unit and they tiled around it. So, if it comes off, then I have to do something about the tile. If I am going to do that, then I may as well replace the vanity that I hate and that is twice the appropriate size for the room. Unfortunately, the closet conversion will have to wait. But, I might be able to do the rest myself. The big debate is if the floor tile runs all the way under the vanity or if I have to redo the floor.
I'm planning on using pre-finished beadboard paneling for the bottom half of the walls where it is currently tiled to make things easier. And I keep scoping out Home Depot's clearance section for their vanity sets. They aren't ideal, but should last enough time that I can upgrade when I do the closet.Kris

A first-hand account of letting HGTV get their hands on your investment. It's about what you'd expect for reality TV:

Wow, that article was really interesting. I've heard before that oftentimes the detail work is really shoddy on some of these shows (House Crashers comes to mind) and that the producers won't spend money on some of the finish work if it's not going to appear on tv anyway. I guess this sort of backs that up.
