Any thoughts on security systems? Since we don't have a dog, I'm liking the idea of getting one now that I'm going to be facing a lot of evenings and nights alone. I HATE coming home to an empty house after dark with the kids.

There's a system called Simplisafe that you set up yourself but has monitoring you can pay for monthly. Anyone used something like this?

We use FrontPoint which you also set up yourself but had monitoring. We've been very happy with it.

We have ADT, and we've been happy so far. We had Monitronics in our old house, which we rented. I like ADT better, but partly because we have Pulse and I can arm/disarm it on my phone or computer.

We have Simplisafe and it's very good. The couple of times we've set an alarm off, they call right away. It's so easy to install too. If all you're looking for is peace of mind, go for it.

Simplisafe has been great. Easy to install and set up, and really cheap compared to the other ripoffs. Also you can stop monitoring anytime and pick it up when you need it.

We had ADT in residency, and I loved being able to set it when DH was away. (It was already installed when we bought the house. We just had to pay for monitoring.) We have a local company now that is much cheaper, but we don't set it regularly now. We really should, since we're paying for it and all... Honestly, I just love having the sign in the front yard and stickers on all the windows. Hopefully it makes the non-monitored houses look more appealing?
