  • Help me pick out details for my kitchen

This is our idea book, these are things we like

    http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/15891...s/Kitchen-6445

We want these lights for above the sink and two above the bar in the clear glass and the antique bronze finish

    http://www.lumens.com/clark-pendant-...ng&tileIndex=1

But then we need a chandelier type light to go over the breakfast nook table that is adjacent, the table will most likely be rectangle.

Then I'm having a hard time deciding between these 3 fridges...

    http://www.searsoutlet.com/32-cu-ft-...57&mode=seeAll

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-...&skuId=8391105

    http://www.samsung.com/us/appliances...RF32FMQDBSR/AA

They all get similar reviews on CR, 79-83. The last one gets the best but I wonder about the split freezer...

I'm sure I'll have more details as we go - we won't start until August but we're starting to pick things out...

I would try to see all the fridges in person. The first one is the simplest model, the last is the fanciest and the middles is the middle. Part of me would want the latest and the greatest and part would worry about all the extra electronics and such breaking.

As for the lights, I thought you were working with a designer. Didn't he/she recommend something for that space?

We are bit working with a designer, we worked with a designer for the space but he's not that kind of designer. We'll have a designer at the cabinet company to help us with cabinet, countertop, backsplash specifics and our GC has some ideas but we will not have a designer. I'll probably go to one of our nicer light stores with this pendant and see what they recommend with it.

As for the fridges I have looked at all 3 on person, I REALLY LIKE #3 and it gets great reviews I just worry about the split freezer and whether we'd miss being able to put wiser things in it. We do have a second fridge/freezer so maybe it's not a big deal...

Love your idea book!!! If you like frig #3 then go for it. I like the split freezer. And really, how often do you freeze something so big you need the full opening?

        So exciting!!!!

Our new kitchen is similar or things with your idea book. Our appliance guy said you lose door space with the French door style. If you have a lot of condiments, this may be a problem.

I could see how that would be a concern but we are going from a very old Kitchenaid built in to this so while I'm sure some people would be losing space we are defiantly not - hah!

I love your idea book! No thoughts on the fridge, though I saw the Samsung in person this week and it's really cool. The only thing I wondered is, if it's for a primary fridge, would you ever switch fridge/freezer functions? Lighting is tricky. Going to a gallery really helped me when we were doing our kitchen. If you're doing a rectangular table, have you considered doing two, smaller, light fixtures over the table? Might open up more options for you.

I like fridge 3, but the fridge space looks too small.

Do you have space for a bigger fridge?

The 3rd one actually claims to have the most fridge space of the 3. We could truly go as big as we'd want, we'd lose some counter/cabinets in the process but I'm not as worried about that because that wall will be all new counter/cabinet space and we're gaining the island. The 4 door is about 4" taller then the other 2.

I'd do a big subzero or similar then.

Sorry, but I am not a fan of SubZero. Or Viking for that matter. I feel like we got burned in our last house....high end appliances that do not add value to your house - might sell it quicker but no added value when is time to sell.

This time, I went with Sears high end stuff and have been happy with it. I actually have fridge number 2 and loooove it. I especially like the drawer where I can choose to make it a freezer or refrigerator. It was a freezer last week while I was making goodies and it was a salad chiller yesterday when I hosted bible study. I usually make it my cheese drawer and keep the cheeses in large containers that I can slip out if I am using ut to freeze. However, I do have a separate beverage fridge, a small chest freezer and a second fridge in this house. The Samsung is mainly for things I use daily. It is true, there is not much room for condiments but I like that because I had quite the collection before and things spoiled before I finished them.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

All those refrigerators are 30+ cubic ft. That's huge. Ours is 23.9 cubic ft and plenty big for 8 people. Not sure I would give up counter space for a bigger frig unless I really had a use for it. I agree with the above on the high end appliances. They add a lot of flash but not necessarily improved function.

Yes! medpedspouse THAT is exactly what I like about #2 and yes the bottom 1/4 of #3 is also convertible but I can't get past the point of the freezer being divided. (I also agree with you about Viking but we are going with a Viking 6 burner gas cooktop b/c it is the one DH really wants, its the right size and gets good reviews - plus we had a hard time finding a 36" that was TRULY a 6 burner).

My one question to those of you with the drawer/bottom freezer - I'm petite, 5'2" am I going to have issues getting stuff in an out of the freezer? I didn't think so in the store...

So these are the differences in the fridges.

                              1-2-3
CR Score 80/79(actually an older model)/83 (All get Recommended status)
                              Capacity total 20.5/30/30 [CR's Total usable 21.8/19/22.9]
                              Capacity fridge 20.5/17.9 (+4.1)/19.5 (+6.1)
                              Capacity freezer 10/9 (+4.1)/6.1 (+6.1)
                              CR's usable capacity fz 7.1/6/9.2
                              CR's usable capacity fdge 14.7/13/13.7

And we have a 2nd fridge/freezer so we will always have extra storage.

Our ovens/microwave are GE Profile and our dishwasher is Miele.
