We've bought our last two houses with high readings, and the sellers agreed to mitigate. We had a crawl space in our old house, and the company put down plastic sheeting on the ground to minimize the air infiltrating from there. Still, it was very reasonable. Lots of companies will try to rip you off and put in much more than is needed - if you get a few quotes, they can vary wildly - as long as the post-mitigation numbers are under 1, they've done their job - they can do that by drilling ditches and putting in two fans, or putting in a simple hole with gravel and one fan. Simpler is better, as long as it gets the numbers down.

Thx I had no idea of how mitigation even works. Silly question, but who tests the numbers once it's done to make sure it's been done properly? Would I get it tested again?

The guys doing the work will test it post-mitigation. But you should do your own test to confirm. They're super cheap - buy a pack of three. The essential idea here is to suck out the air from beneath the slab and send it outside. So you want to provide a super-permeable area, like gravel, so the soil gas will preferentially flow to that area, get it under a vacuum, and pipe the air to a high place. You can do this on a small scale, and see if it works, and then if not do some more, and see if it works...or you can do a big expensive job the first time. Usually the small scale will work.

So apparently they've started and almost completed mitigation. Our realtor just got the news today.
