We still have a few empty walls in our house, so I've been working on getting some art to put up. I love the idea of having local art from places we've lived. I have this print and another similar one, which kind of started my local collection: http://www.stanrouthart.citymax.com/...22/8969687.htm

I want to get one of these from Nashville: https://www.andersondesigngroupstore...nashville.html

    And something else from Houston...

I got one of these today, because we needed something in our kitchen, and this reminds me of so many of the fun things about Louisiana: http://dianneparksart.com/?p=568

I also want to print out some pictures, as soon as I can decide which ones I like best...

What kind of art do you have in your house?

    Love those prints, great color!

We try to get something on our travels. Of course this limits us size wise but we've collected some nice things, a miniature gladiator helmet and tapestries from Rome, didgeridoo and boomerang from Australia and several things from Ireland. Most of the wall art are my own oil paintings. They're landscapes and still life mostly, very colorful. I have a couple of paintings planned for this house because it has high ceilings and can take larger paintings.

My mom's a painter so I have a ridiculous number of her paintings. My favorite is a dark, slightly cubist cityscape she did when she was 20, but most everything else is plein air landscapes. I also have a couple fun screen prints by Minneapolis artist Adam Turman, and some Charlie Harper framed poster prints.

Oh, gosh. All kinds of stuff. My favorites are modern and surrealist pieces by outsider artists. I'll take some pictures later.

Eta. I have a couple paintings from this guy: http://www.gobrooklynart.org/studio/joe.r.strasser

        And this guy:
        http://www.alexandergoreart.com/

And an original from this woman who is a friend of mine: http://christinelyallart.com/

One from him. I met him a long time ago. http://www.thedailywood.com/uncatego...-dot-art-fair/

And this guy who had been a law clerk at my law firm: http://cortada.com/

And one of these. Mine says something about Elvis banishing real estate developers to hell. It amused me given my former profession. http://www.shepart.net/i/Developers/

Come to think of it, I acquired all of these before I married and began the medical nomadic journey. Maybe it's time to start collecting again now that we are done.

Also, I've been collecting ACEOs. They are baseball trading card sized paintings. I like that they are very portable and inexpensive.

We have been collecting some photographs from local artists, and one linoleum print. We also have a number of paintings by artists we know: a couple of watercolors from my uncle, a large oil painting from my ILs' former neighbor, a pencil sketch by DH's grandfather.

I really like those ALOY. I like the idea of using local artwork and telling the story of your lives.

I just finished a wall art project for our dining room and I really like the way it turned out. I took maps of the three cities that we have lived in together, antiqued them with coffee and mounted them to canvases. I got the maps free from AAA so it was a pretty inexpensive project. Other than that our wall art is mostly photos. I took pictures of our hometown before we left for med school and we have always had six of those 8x10's framed. I recently mixed in family/kid pictures into a collage, all black and whites. They are above our fireplace now and I always get lots of comments on them. I change out the family pics occasionally to my latest favorites.

I also framed a skeleton key from my grandparents house that I love because it makes me think of them. Their house still used the big old skeleton keys until they both passed away. When my parents were getting ready to sell the house they replaced the door knobs and gave me one of the old keys.

I have some old handouts from a college history of architecture class I framed that used to be in my office at work but are now in DS's room. The professor did his handouts as blueprints and they are sketches of column types, architectural styles, etc. I like to have things on the wall that have meaning to me.

Good luck. Decorating a new house is fun. I still have a lot of work to do on ours.

Mostly photographs, usually portaits I've taken. I like to include things that have meaning too.

I'm not really big on paintings, but I do dream of having a painting done of us with a tornado in the background. Not kidding.

I like ironic art. In college there was a series called "Monsters and Landscapes" by a local artist and I really wanted one. Think Bob Ross landscape with random monsters blending in.

We have a lot of blank walls but a garage full of frame boxes (I'm not even sure I remember what's in those boxes)

For K2's "gallery". I especially like that one of the entries in the dictionary page on which it is printed is "shock therapy".

                    Also for K2's gallery.

We buy a piece of art for our anniversary every year. Sometimes it's just been framing a photo we've taken ourselves if that's all we can afford, but we try to go to a local gallery, or find something on a trip. It's really fun to look back and remember where we were in life at the time of each acquisition.

We have stuff from our travels...Or local artist from where we are living at the time. Every piece has some meaning. Where DH did his fellowship, the hospital had a small rotating gallery. Every time I walked by I was drawn to one piece...of a pear. . I loved the colors. DH surprised me with it when he finished training. People often ask what's up with the pear.

When we travel, we usually either ship the piece or just buy the artwork and have it framed once home. We have been collecting since med school...whatever we could afford at the time. They each remind me of our trips so they probably have no meaning to anyone else...but I love the fact that my home reflects multiple
                            cultures.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

This is my next project. Although, I'd like to paint the walls in my living room before I buy 1-2 large prints.
