We had to buy a black whirlpool fridge recently, mostly because the previous owners chose black WP for every other appliance and mixed would look strange. The shiny finish smudges.

Stainless steel or black?

I say no to black too. Our kitchen has a ton of black - cabinets, trim, etc and our stove top is black too. It all looks dirty all the time. It's like a dust magnet from hell. We have a stainless fridge that we bought when we moved in and it smudges but it's not a big deal. I'm going to try the wd40 trick. Also look at Frigidaire - their stainless is sealed and doesn't smudge.Wife to Hand Surgeon just out of training, mom to two lovely kittys and little boy, O, born in Sept 08.
