  • Serious first world problem - firing cleaning people

I get that this isn't a real problem, but I have to do it today or tomorrow. The women that started cleaning our apartment about three months (when bending started getting to be hard for me) ago did an ok job, but nothing spectacular. They charged what I thought was A LOT for the apartment, and i was nervous to see how much they would charge for our considerably bigger house. So I started looking for someone else. Well I found a service and they came last week. They were awesome, and charged way less for the house than I was paying for the apartment. They also bring all their own organic cleaning supplies - which saves even more money. Plus they bring their own vacuums (the other ladies really abused mine - which is annoying because they're insanely expensive).

So I know I just need to grow a pair and say I found people who are cheaper and do a better job... But the ladies are nice. Anyone done this before and know of a nice way for me to do this? I don't know how much they would charge for the house yet, just assuming it will be too much.

The other issue is that I've sort of waited until the last minute. They are supposed to come Thursday......

I'd just say that "my circumstances have changed, and I can't continue with your service."

Yeah, bringing up that you found someone cheaper and better sounds petty and invites argument. This is a pretty simple "Thanks for everything, but see ya" kind of situation.

I'm willing to bet it happens all the time.

Well of course she just asked whether it was something they did or didn't do. I haven't responded.

I'm not sure if it happens all the time. I know two people that use them and are very happy. They certainly weren't that bad, they just weren't amazing. And they were charging me way too much in my opinion. I was just kind of desperate at the time I hired them, so I agreed to it.

I'd assure her that it was nothing she's done and repeat that your circumstances have changed. You wouldn't want her to think that you believe she's stolen from you or something like that. She may be worried that you'll complain to the other customers you know.

I've cut the cleaning lady I have (who is known as Racist Housekeeper - she's legit racist and says the worst shit but she's cheap and... ugh it's a long story) to twice a month and I'm fading her out in August and getting someone (ANYONE!) else.
They thankfully didn't have a key - and actually haven't even been to this house yet, so it was a good time to change.

I know. I miss having a door man! Was nice to never have to worry about someone (besides the doorman) having a key. Now I just plan on giving them the garage code, which I'll just change if something happens.
