  • Getting rid of baby clothes

In the spirit of decluttering and organizing, I've got like 7 diaper boxes full of baby girl clothes that we won't be needing anymore. Most of it is from Carter's, with some from Baby Gap and Gymboree, and a handful of nicer outfits like MudPie. I was going to just take it all to Once Upon a Child and see how much cash they'll give me - I know it won't be a ton, but it's better than nothing if I just donate it. I've also got a medical spouse friend with a baby girl here, so I told her she could go through it too. I don't want to just give her all the boxes, but would it be weird to ask her to pay for some? Like a dollar an outfit or something, unless it's the more expensive stuff? For the nicer stuff, I might actually list it on a BST site, I just don't have the time to do that with everything else. What would you do?

I personally wouldn't sell to a friend because I'm awkward and that would feel weird to me. I'd gift or offer to let her choose from a box or two but I wouldn't sell it. I never have time to sell things individually so I'd probably do Once Upon a Child except for special stuff. There's also a rescue mission here that I try to give things away to as well. FYI, if you do Once Upon a Child, try to sort by season...they will give you nothing for summer stuff now but will give you better prices for fall/winter since that's what they need.

Ditto. Maybe just let her go through the stuff you don't care about getting your money back on or off-season stuff that OUaC wouldn't take right now anyway? Unless the friend specifically asked "Hey, can I buy some of your old baby clothes off you?" I wouldn't ask her to pay, and even then depending on what and how much it was I'd probably just let her have it.

I wouldn't sell it to a friend. One of the other spouses in DH's residency gave us tons of used clothes, and she never asked for anything.
If anything, you could remove all the nicer stuff from the boxes before you give it to her.

Last time I was in OUaC, they said they took everything, any time. I'll have to double check and see if they really won't give us anything for the summer clothes. We've got a lot of stuff, and I'd like to get at least a little bit of something for it to help toward buying baby boy stuff instead of just giving it all away.

OUaC is franchised. Ours might just not have the storage but they definitely told me that. Yours might be different and they might have storage to keep clothes even if they're out of season.

If you are willing to do the work for a Just between friends sale, you can make way way more. Once upon a child gives crap $$$. I sold most of Ns clothes last year and made $300. I made another $150 this year just selling one years worth of stuff she had outgrown

Just Between Friends is a huge consignment sale where you can be a vendor or buyer (or both!).
They usually do 2 a year in major cities.

We don't have a JBF here. We have Rhea Lana's, but it's a ton of work, and it was last month.

We have similar sales. It is a TON of work prepping and pricing the clothes. I don't know a single working mom around here who can pull it off...I'm planning on just gifting my nanny a bunch of clothes if she has a girl and we're still planning on more so we shall see. Maybe I'll have more time if I ever stop working.

It is a ton of work. The first set took me hours. Going through 1 years worth has been much easier. I get 70% of sales price minus a $10 consigners fee.

It's a lot of work. However, I press, hang and pin the clothes as the kids grow out of them. I keep wire hangers and pins in the laundry room and just prepare the clothes all year round. That way, I don't have that much to do once the sale comes along. Just logging and tagging. I do the same for toys and baby gear. I clean and pack it up and keep it together in a specific area as the kids discard their toys.
