Name that thingie

Can anyone tell me WTH these little metal bracket/hook thingies are?



There are 11 of them that came attached to my laundry room shelves when we moved in. They are arranged as if in pairs, except that in one spot there is one mounted sideways between two others. They are about 1" high by 1/2" wide and the "hook" protrusion is pretty flimsy (gets bent out of shape even though we don't use it for anything.) I'm going to remove them tomorrow, unless I find out that the previous owners were some kind of decorating geniuses for putting them up. (Did they hold up curtains to cover the shelf contents, is my only guess?)

They could have also been used to hold up molding. Are they the same height as the shelves and parallel to each other?

Yeah, they are, but...you can kind of see them in this photo.



See the set of three shelving units to the right? There's a thingie on the top left corner of the group and on the top right corner of the group -- and a sideways one in the middle. O_o

I feel like I want to go through every metal thingie at the Home Depot and solve this mystery of what the thingie is designed for!
