  • How Can I Fix This?

On Tuesday, DH seared some halibut on the stove. 4 nights later, our house still smells like halibut. I've opened all the windows in the house, and I've burnt candles. The trash went out immediately after dinner and was picked up on Wednesday morning. We have never had this issue with any other fish we have cooked.

What else can I do to make the smell go away? Isn't there something I can nuke in the microwave to make it better? Ugh. 😲

Hm, since searing the fish was a frying action, you kind of have to imagine the smell being carried in the oil spatters. So grease-cutting measures are what's going to get rid of it permanently, scrubbing down surfaces near the stove especially but also wiping down the rest of the house. But in the meantime, lemon and vinegar are known to have fish-canceling properties. Maybe start by simmering lemon slices or lemon EO on the stove? Putting out bowls of vinegar in rooms that are bothering you? Or even go all-out and find some zeolite crystals, there are a lot of brands marketing them for odor neutralizing.
