  • Vinyl floor tiles

Anyone every installed vinyl floor tiles by themselves. I'm half crazy enough to think that I can do this one myself.

    Help? Horror stories? Advice?

Yes -- I helped DH. We used the adhesive backed ones which I think made it easier. They did great on a high traffic area. The part that makes me nervous is cutting them with a blade (I'm sort of weinie about that). If you have to a lot of trimming of tiles, that makes it a little more work but not too difficult.

My DH installed vinyl tile in a very small bathroom in our basement, and while I was quite skeptical of what the final result would be (he is SO not a handyman!!) ... it actually turned out great. Nellie's right, the cutting is the hardest part.

I went to our local big-box hardware store (Lowe's) and picked out the tile I wanted, then went and asked the salesperson what kinds of product we would need to prepare the surface. They recommended a primer for our concrete floor, which we applied with a roller. Start tiling from the center of the space/room/area, and work your way out. I saw on a home improvement show on TV that they used a glue of some sort in addition to the adhesive, but we didn't bother with that and it's done just fine.

Thanks...I think that I'm going to try it. We're putting vinyl tiles over a vinyl sheet. The home depot was clearing out a really high grade of these vinyl tiles but they will not install them because they can't put them under warranty. (Apparently people gripe about the seams). I bought enough to do the kitchen, dining room, and two stair landings plus all the supplies for $150! Wish me luck!

I've done it all by my self!!!! Just be sure to find the center using a chalkline.
