Decluttering the house

While DD was off at summer camp this morning, I went through her room and cleared away a bunch of stuff that she doesn't need/use anymore. There is an awful lot that she doesn't need. What a difference it made! It feels so much more peaceful, and I think it helps DD more appreciate the things she does have.

My plan now is to do each part of the house a little at a time. I told DH (who is a real pack rat) the basement is next...where most of his junk is stored. :>

I'm doing this now as well. We had a streamlined life when we lived in less space. We've been in a big house now for two years and I'm starting to feel the sprawl effect. I've been cleansing the kids rooms of unused items - and I' was just contemplating the basement. That's a scary one, though. Lots of junk and disorder down there.

I like moving every one to two years to really help with the decluttering.

I have become a hard-core tosser. We're living in about 500 square feet at the moment and have 2 storage units. My goal is to get through everything and get us down to one storage unit. Of course we have a huge amount of furniture that has no home but...the other crap will be gone.

I just bought myself a whole bunch of new clothes- the last time I bought shorts was when we lived here in SA three years ago. Everything old is going to the Salvation Army dropoff around the corner.

Luckily Nikolai doesn't really have that much 'stuff' because they really emphasized not overwhelming them when they come over from the orphanages. We also hid all of his Christmas presents so he is just now discovering them. I tossed everything that was broken before my mom flew in with him.
