  • LG Brand?

We are starting to save up for a refrigerator, and we have decided we want to get a side by side. We have a fridge that is a top mount freezer, but it is getting too small for our needs. It was free, and still works so it will be moved out to the garage.

I have fallen in love with a mid-range LG model, and wanted to see if any of you have any experience or have heard anything about LG. I have already checked Consumer Reports, but I don't trust them as much as I used to after the purchase of my vaccuum.

Oh, as much as I would love a French door model, it's out of the question- while we were at a store, my two oldest demonstrated quite perfectly how to open the bottom freezer and climb in it.

I had a french door model in DC- didn't even occur to me to think that Nikolai would climb in it- words of wisdom, that's for sure.

I think I remember reading that basically all of the appliances in the US are made by the same two manufacturers. (if only I could remember which two!) I'm pretty sure that Kenmore and several others are all the same thing.

Check out epinions.com as well. And bizrate.com Both have people with pretty brutal opinions on things.

I've heard good things about other LG appliances, namely washers.

We have a side by side and Anna can open both doors. I don't think she has considered climbing in. Yikes! I'll keep that in mind next time I wish we done something different.

If I had it to do over again, I would get the French door model. Those had just started coming out when we bought our side by side and they were too expensive. My complaint with the side by side is that the freezer is too narrow to hold a lot of dishes or a cookie sheet. And the fridge, while wider, does have some width restrictions but not as bad as the freezer, IMO.

You have a big freezer though, right? That might help to make the side by side width less restrictive.

I think that Kenmore is primarily Frigidaire and....Maytag? Whirlpool? Used to be just one of those but now more of them are Frigidaire as well.
