Pillows

Specifically- old pillows. What do you do with them? How many old pillows can one three person family have? I have regular size and king size and I have no idea what to do. Most donation sites won't take them for fear of bedbugs (totally get that- ewwwww). I have some that are used for propping up in bed reading things- but really. I'd like to get us some new pillows this weekend at the PX but good Lord, that will give me two more old pillows.

Throw them away? That seems incredibly wasteful to my tree hugging self. Suggestions anyone?

I'll take them for christmas! Seriously, I love pillows. Before I lived with dh I had so many pillows that it was hard to see the bed. I don't know why, but if I can't sleep on the ground, in a hammock or a tree I want to sleep in a mound of pillows. I guess I can't take a straight surface?!

No, don't really mail them to me. DH would kill me.

I throw them away. I saw an Oprah episode on old pillows, sheets, mattresses, etc and it really grossed me out!!

OK- My tree hugging self will not think about the land-fills. Out they are going to go.

and that kind of show is why I never watched those "look what you can see with the black light on the hotel comforter" shows when I was traveling. There was one group home that was so horrible that I bagged my clothes and bought new ones- THAT is NASTY.

Hahaha! Don't touch that remote control in the hotel room. That's all I will say because I wish I hadn't read about all the gross stuff that's been found in "clean" hotel rooms.

sidenote.....

At the cabins we stayed in in WI, if you stripped the beds and picked up they will give you a $15 off coupon for your next stay. I did everything asked...stripped 6 beds, cleaned the kitchen and turned on the dishwasher, vacuumed the floor, etc...HEY..anything for $15 off, right? They didn't give it to me because I apparently didn't follow the directions closely enough. I stripped the beds of blankets, sheets and comforters....they ONLY wanted the sheets and after I stripped it all they were forced to wash the comforter and blanket. It totally grossed me out. That means that I slept in the bed with a comforter that someone else had used first.....eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww

If they're feather pillows or cotton, you can compost them!
The bedbugs would probably enjoy the compost pile

Maybe you could somehow sew them together and sew some sort of easy slipcover to go over it for a bed for one of your fur babies?

kris, all hotels do that! they hardly EVER wash the comfoters. :!

That's true, and typically everything on top of the bed is actually dirtier than being in it! I have a friend who refuses to sleep on hotel beds so she brings an air mattress with her to every one. But hey, I can't blame her.

the first thing dh does when we get to a hotel, is to strip the bed of the comforter. he throws it in the closet or on the floor.

Ditto for me. If they have a regular blanket stowed in the closet, I'll use that instead, otherwise, I wear warm pj's. Hotel comforters aren't soft or comfortable on any level. Just gritty. Ick. :nono:

Actually, Marriott has totally upgraded their linens and they are divine. In fact, they now sell them through their website and catalogs.

It's part of their big push to regain the business traveler dollar.
