  • What to expect from a pest control service

I.abhor.roaches. We have a pest control service that comes quarterly to spray for bugs. Their policy is to spray outside the house only unless you have problems, then they will come inside. I have only had them come inside once in the last year bc I dont want my kids around the spray.
when i told the pest control guy that he sprayed some pesticide onto his hand and licked it to 'prove' to me how safe it is!)

Anyways, like I said, i have what some may call an irrational issue with roaches, probably stemming from the time when I was a camp counselor and I woke up with one on my face or the time when we had just moved into a new house and i woke up to one crawling on my stomach, and it ran to the headboard and DH hit it with a shoe and it splattered roach guts all over the sheets.

So, I am making a short story really long here, but I pick up on average of two dead roaches (always the big huge ones which people say are not the bad kind, but if they are in my house, then I think they are plenty bad) a day, and see maybe one live roach a day. The ones I see alive are almost always FTD ( that is Southern Nurse speak for fixin to die), but still, I dont want to see a single roach in my home ever. Living in the south, is that realistic? Should I have the pest control company come back and spray inside? When I called them to ask, they said they cant control them coming in the house, but they should die soon after they come inside.

I have lived in three houses in this town, all of them older homes, and all have had tons of roaches, which makes me think this town is excessively roach infested.

i've got nothing constructive to offer, only wanted to say that i think your 'issues' w/roaches are TOTALLY valid and reasonable.

    ICK!

BTW ... I love 'FTD' ... great phrase!

I think I'd get a new pest control service based on that little pearl.

I understand how you feel about the roaches. It could be that because he's spraying outside, they are coming in to die.....I think living roach-free in the South is just practically impossible

Ok, so I feel like the expert here. I love exterminators. I would recommend that you let him come spray inside the home. This helped a LOT with my spider problem. I still am finding one or two live spiders a day (but that's nothing compared to before ) and there are always a few dead ones on the sink counter in the bathroom. At least they are dead. Seriously.

Re: the kids, they should be fine. Spraying inside seems a lot safer than leaving out roach traps or poisons. My dog gets everywhere and licks everything in the house, and she's been fine too.

I would also recommend fogging the house about a week after he sprays inside. Right after my apt was sprayed the spiders were out even worse than before because they didn't know where to go. I think the fogger took care of the remainders for the most part.
