Homemade curtains

Making curtains shouldn't be that hard, right? I can sew, but I've never actually completed a sewing project....my in-laws are coming tomorrow and we have several windows that have no curtains (and have had no curtains for a long time) and my MIL mentions every time how cute such and such curtain would be for such and such window...but my goodness, curtains are expensive! She's right, those windows need something, so I'm just gonna try...

So, moral of the story, how has your homemade curtain attempts come?

I made curtains for our kitchen window & side door window in our old house. They were easy, but were really just your basic, one panel, slide the rod in curtain. My MIL made roman blinds for our old house. According to the pattern they are also easy, but more complicated directions than I care to follow. It's always good to give my MIL a project.

Honestly - if your MIL thinks curtians would look so nice, then SHE can buy some!

Curtains are easy, even roman shades. I've made a ton. The quickest curtains for me have always been a big piece of fabric hemmed all around, and then hung up on a curtain rod with those rings that have clamps attached. They slide open and closed super easy, and come down quickly if you decide you want a change. Very quick and cheap.

When we moved in, I went to Target and bought all the hardware and rods I'd need and the total came to $250, NOT including curtains. So I returned everything, went to Home Depot and bought electrical conduit for rods and c-hooks to hang them on. It came to $9 and change. Not one person has ever noticed I used electrical conduit. Its just plain silver.

Well...I finished my curtains...real simple - tab top curtains for my kitchen. They look great!

mmmm...anyone wanna make me some? We have many windows that need them....and we can't afford to buy ones off the shelf.
