How do I get chocolate out of couch upholstery?

I was munching on chocolate covered ginger last night while waiting for dh to get home... I must have lost one on the couch. It rolled underneath me, got warm, and melted into an icky chocolate mess.

Um, I don't know what you're talking about. Nothing like that has EVER happened here....

My couch probably has vestiges of all food groups ground in it. (it's dark green, no one can tell!)

I would try one of the OXY-type upholstry cleaners- but make sure to test a spot first.

what about freezing it with an ice cube and then chipping it off?

sorry about your sofa....and even more sorry about that chocolate...what a shame.

Jenn, please tell me you're being sarcastic.

I was sitting here in a half-reclined position and one of those suckers managed to roll underneath me and melt!

Thanks Sylvia- i think it may be a little late for the ice... Last night I tried to clean it with Oxy-whatever the stuff is and what was left of my Perrier and this morning there's grease and a little brown tinge.

          Alison,

I was only serious about the 4 food groups part.

Hmmm, the grease. When in grad school at my chocolate factory job, the only thing that we found that consistently got the oils off the chocolate molds and our clothes was Dawn dishwashing liquid. and EXTREMELY hot water to keep the grease emulsified.

Maybe that would help. or make it much worse.

Dawn is my secret stainfighter for EVERYTHING - from carpets to clothing. It works very very well.

Shi*t, I think I've officially destroyed the couch. I decided to do my dad's trick. Murphy Oil Soap. That was before I read the posts on Dawn. Darn! (I've got Dawn in my kitchen)

I think I'm going to have a bad ring effect. If I have a ring, maybe I can use the Dawn to get it out...?

My mil arrives on Sat.!!!! AHHHHH! Panic!

Run and grab the Dawn! Go, go, go! Scrub far and wide to try and avoid the ring effect.

It's Ikea Ektorp. The upholstery is not the same on both sides!

Dh got home before me today and... there's a ring. I tried to cover it with a pillow, but dh found it! Argh!

I had done the Dawn like you suggested but then had to leave soonafter for work. The Dawn would have worked if I had done it earlier (before the oxy stuff, before the Murphy Soap, etc. etc).

Putzherr is not happy and has been working for the last hour or so on the stain. He knows his mom is going to grill us/me on this stain when she gets here. Bad timing!

so...why would his mother care if you stained your furniture?

Have Kris explain this one to you. :>

She's going to tell me how I shouldn't eat on the couch. How the stain should have been taken out. How I shouldn't have waited. And say this in the condescending: "Here's a tip for you.... At least that is what has worked for me... From experience..."

I just don't think I could judge you for eating chocolate covered ginger. I love that stuff.

Good luck with the cushions. Umm....at least now she has another activity to fill her time?
