  • Knitters, help a girl out please...

I get so confused trying to read a knitting pattern. I really want to make this cute baby hat but I cant get past line 2. Can someone translate this for me? And maybe give me some moral suppor too. It really does seem like some kind of unintelligible language.

rw 1: (rs) kl, *k7, k2tog, repeat from * across rw, end k1
rw2: (ws) and subsequent even numbered rws, P all sts
    rw 3: k1, *k6, k2tog, repeat from * across rw, end k1
rw5: and subsequent odd numbered rws: continue decreases, always starting and ending the rw with k1, and working one st less before hte k2tog's on each rw unti lyou complete rw

I usually just lurk... but here is the pattern written out:

row 1: K1, K7 K2tog, and repeat doing the combination of K7 K2tog all the way accross the row until there is only 1 stitch left, then K the last stitch.
row 2: P all the way accross
row 3: K1, K6 K2tog, and repeat the combination of K6 K2tog all the way accross the row until there is only one stitch left, then K the last stitch
row 4: P all the way accross
row 5: K1, K5 K2tog, and repeat the combination of K5 K2tog all the way accross the row, then K the last stitch
row 6: P all the way accross
row 7: K1, K4 K2tog, and repeat the combination of K4 K2tog all the way accross the row, then K the last stitch
row 8: P all the way accross
row 9: K1, K3 K2tog, and then repeat the combination of K3 K2tog all the way accross the row, then K the last stitch
row 10: P all the way accross

Does that make sense? You didn't mention how many stitches to cast on, or how the top of the cap is ended.... are you OK for those parts of the pattern? Yes, patterns are there own language!!

Go for it!!!! I recently made a couple like this to send to little babies in Afghanistan, and the pattern makes sense once you get going, and it works up fairly quickly. Enjoy!!!
