  • buying fabric online?

If anyone out there still buys fabric... have you ever bought it online? If so, where?

I'm looking for creative fabrics - embroidered, eyelet, quality linen, thin-wale corduroy prints. LOTS of texture.

I'm not sure what I'll find at chain fabric stores, and I'm not having much luck looking online.

    Any ideas??

I don't like to purchase online for the most part. I really prefer to feel the fabric first. As far as chain stores go, I much prefer Joann to Hancock. fabric.com has good prices, but again, I really prefer to touch my fabrics before I buy them.

There are LOTS of people on here who buy online. I like fabric.com (also on ebates) b/c you can return it, but there are a lot of smaller, independent sellers, too. MadeinTaiwan or ColorMeSulky can give you leads on the best online retailers. My only issue w/online purchasing is that it's sometime hard to get the color right b/c of screen variations.

I have ordered fabric a few times and it's never quite what I was expecting even though I poured over the images and such. If possible I prefer choosing in person so I can examine all of it's qualities. When I have ordered I've gotten from fabric.com and reprodepot.com.

Sounds crazy, but I bought fabric on eBay. And it was a great experience. But I was looking for something really particular: a half bolt of "bug fabric" (that is, fabric with insect patterns all over it).

Great - thanks for all the advice! I'll check these out. I hadn't thought about ebay. I also found this - http://www.decorativefabricsdirect.com It's expensive, and now I'm worried about the quality matching the photos. I might try two yards of something and see how it works out.
