  • SELF Challenge

OK, nows the time to sign up if you want to do it this year!

I've started it a few times before but I'd really like to complete it this time. Especially since my ability to get to the gym has been seriously curtailed.

    I started it on Monday.

    Jenn

PS- note: the benefit of ones husband being gone is that one can do a strength training exercise in the office at 9:30 pm.

I looooove the Self challenge. However, until our move, I'm challenged enough. I'll start it in mid-June.

BTW, my next ticker is going to say "Columbus Marathon 2007".

Go to http://www.self.com and sign up for the challenge. It's three months long and they give you the workouts and some diet information. The nice thing is that they have streaming video, MP3 support, etc so there's literally no way to screw it up.

So, I'm planning on utilizing my piddly job to it's fullest extent- asin leaving here ON TIME every day at 3:30 to go to the gym before I have to pick up Nikolai at day care.

Or at least try to do that three days a week.

Yesterday I managed to convince Nikolai to take Petey for a walk on the Riverwalk (meant he had to sit in the jogging stroller- an you know he's such a mature almost three year old that he often refuses)

I did the strength section after we got back AND we did a kid yoga dvd, too.

Makes up for the beer I had later while watching "Beerfest"

So, I decided to join the gym rather than buy a treadmill for home.

I've been dropping the dude off at school (although they have a day care at the gym which is why I picked them) and working out before going to work. (love the PT job thing, takes away a lot of the pressure to have to work out at the asscrack of dawn.)

I also signed up for Personal Training and that came with the Bally "Total Results" Weight loss plan. (basically a plan, some bars and a slim-fast like drink.) I tried the drink this am with some strawberries and half a banana thrown in. charitably...it tastes like cardboard. But, it's 4 hours later and I'm not starving so I guess it's working.

I'm doing the PT twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and then I do cardio MWF. Saturdays I figure we'll do a walk or something.

and today I did a 1.5 milk walk to benefit our child and adolescent MH Unit and lo and behold my coach from the Ireland marathon was there and he's still doing training for various things on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. I may go and sign up with him because he said I can bring the running stroller. The SA marathon is this November and it goes right through my neighborhood. (it's flat for those interested in a road trip!)

                  Hmmmmm.

My personal trainer promised me -20 pounds in 6 months which would put me well at my wedding weight. (that was when I was also going to the gym every day for at least an hour. There are some benefits to not having one's husband/boyfriend around. No distractions!)

I'm pretty psyched. I love, LOVE working out and it's so nice to be able to do it before work but not crawal out of bed when the rest of the universe is still asleep. I may try the spinning class if I can find my bike shorts. The arse is too tender to attempt it without the padding.

OK, one week in at Bally's and down three pounds! (This is the combined 5 days/week at the gym plus really trying to keep to a 1500 calorie diet.)

                    Off to the gym!

I went to the gym Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and today. That is my best streak ever.

My trainer made me cry today. Full on bawl. She told me I should be proud of myself for how much work I was doing and how hard I was working, and all I kept thinking is that this shouldn't be this hard. All of my self talk is so negative. Then, I was thinking I should quit.

Working out consistently is soooo hard for me.

                        Friday - trainer
Saturday - 1 hour water aerobics
                        Monday - trainer
Tuesday - 1 hour water aerobics
                        Wednesday - trainer

I like water aerobics. I hate/love/really hate my trainer.

Kris, no, I'm not doing the self challenge. I will though if I can have a partner!

Is it too late, and how much torture is involved?
