  • WeightWatchers

I bit the bullet and joined the online version of weightwatchers. I'm probably insane to start this during the holidays but it was time to make a change. I've been doing it for four days now and I'm sooo hungry. Please, please tell me I'll get used to the smaller portions and I won't spend the rest of eternity longingly gazing into the kitchen.

    You'll get there!

This is a TOUGH time of year.

Our friends lost about 40 pounds combined when they did it.

Good luck and keep us posted.

You'll get used to the portions! I promise!

The first time I did WW I lost 50 lbs.... of course then I had a baby and gained it all back and then some...... . It's not the portion sizes that are hard for me.....its the mindless snacking.

My "feel full" tips are to make sure that you drink your water and suck on hard candies.

There are several of us doing WW now. Maybe others will post their tips too.

Though I have never done wieght watchers, I'll throw in the weight loss tips that worked for me post baby. Basically, all "bad" advice, but it works. Go to bed hungry. After a work out drink coffee instead of eating when the hunger hits about a half hour later. Drink lemonade instead of water. I don't know, plain water never did anything for me to curb hunger. Eat grapefruit at least 3-5 days/week. I have no idea why, but it works. Snack on popcorn (but here make sure you drink plenty of water) and get creative with toppings. Nutritional yeast and cheyenne pepper are some of my favorites- not together. Most of all, I think you have to come to like/love that skinny tummy feeling. There's something deeply psychologically satisfying to having a full and bloated tummy, but readjusting to the sexy feeling of an empty one can be done. It is a different thing from hunger...but takes concentration to tell apart I think. And just my observations naturally, no real data to back anything up here.

I have lost 40 lbs twice (as in two diff times) in 6 months this way. I *said* it's bad advice so don't throw tomatoes.

Great pointers - thanks all! Last night, i realized that my hatred of feeling hungry is probably the reason why I have to lose weight in the first place, duh. Off to buy some grapefruit, hard candy, and 0 point foods.

WoooHooooo!!!! You are getting there! The first 2 pounds feels really good doesn't it???????!?!? Way to go for sticking to it and pushing through the hunger. How are you doing with it now?? It seems like it took me 2+ weeks to really not feel stir crazy hungry. I still have those hungry moments but it's not Every Single Moment like it was a few weeks ago.

              Go you!!

                ??????

Question about your popcorn. What kind do you buy? It seems that when I'm in the store the labels are all really high in calorie. Even the new low cal low fat popcorn that came out a while back didn't look all that great.

                  Re: WeightWatchers

Make sure you are looking at the Post-popping calories. For some reason, it's really different and the "better for you" popcorns really aren't all THAT different from the buttery ones once popped.

Or you could do as my roommate does and buy low-fat low-calorie no butter (nasty) popcorn and then pump about 50 pumps of spray butter and a half gallon of salt on it. I'm SURE that's still better for you.

                    Re: WeightWatchers

I'm old fashioned. I get the kernals - unpopped and pop in a pan, though I used to have an air popper before the last move, miss that. Microwave works too. Nothing fancy, just the real stuff.

The other must have, especially if you need to have a full tummy, is Go Lean cereal. It is so filling. But I have...problems...if I don't drink lots of water when I eat it.

This is freaking me out a little bit. I'm so much bigger this time, not heavier really, but bigger. I'm scared of starting the climb back to shape. The starting is the hardest part though, right?

I'm still hungry but oddly enough I'm getting used to it. Now if I can just resist the fudge that a neighbor just dropped by...damn holidays

YES! I'm not doing WW, but I am working on losing weight and getting smaller and I lost 2.5 lbs and I feel like I've gotten a second wind!! I'm actually EXCITED to be losing weight and working out and just generally getting healthier. I can't wait to be my old size - I miss my nice clothes. You can do it, Janet, and I'll be rooting you on the entire time!! If you want to come visit, SO can watch the new baby and we can go work out together.

                          Congrats bittersweet!!!!!

Re: popcorn. I bought a jar of the plain kernels and pop them in the microwave in a brown paper bag for about 2 - 2.5 minutes. The kernels that I have are 2 points for 2 tablespoons of kernels.
I've think that the kernels taste much fresher than the microwavable bags.
