  • New Mag, w/the Biggest Loosers inside: Clean Eating

Oh I am SO SO SO excited about this new magazine. I found it at the grocery store, and thought huh I've never seen that one. That is because it's brand new. Inside it has very educational info on clean eating. Clean eating, if you haven't heard the phrase, just means healthy food in the most unprocessed form possible. It has articles this month (it's second edition) from Ellie Krieger from the Food Network (I miss her show alot as it's on the weekend) , Devin Alexander chef on Discovery Health. There are two articles on Pam Smith and Kai Hibbard Zwierstra from the Biggest Looser. They talke about what they did to change their life styles, and there are tips from them, and tips from Kim Lyons their trainer on the show. Also there is an article on five clean and quick meals for only $60 for a family of four. I swear this is everything I loved about other magazines, but with other mags I was always not 100% in love. They don't have models spread all inside, there recipes look easy and made of easily excessable ingredients. Also there aren't diet suppliment adds on every other page.

SOOOO after all that, if you are looking for good info, LOTS of recipes you actually would want to try, and tips on how to cut out just a tad more off your calorie intake - PICK THIS UP!!!

Also Ellie Krieger said she has a website that has: a fitness plan, food log, activity log, weight tracher and progress measurer, and of course recipes

That said, I think it's great to get people thinking this way. Ultimately it's just a return to the way people ate BEFORE fast food and high fructose corn syrup.
I totally agree. We've been eating this way for several years now, of course with a few cheats here and there . But with the summer coming, I want to cut off the bad stuff even more and add more good stuff - so when I saw this I was pleasantly surprised.

On the recipe, yeah they had a snack that was 145 calories for one rolled fruit ball covered in coconut. I thought that was rather high for somthing someone would want to eat at least two of. But for the most part, I thought the mag was packed with good articles - I actually wanted to read, and good tips and recipes. Cooking Light is good too, but you have to watch the calories on the recipes as well. Though for me, CL has more recipes where you have to gather special ingredients - but I still like it.

I read some reviews last year on Tosca Reno's book "The Eat-Clean Diet" , and read it was very basic. But that could be a good go to source if anyone is interested.

Though on the tangent of calories. I have a HUGE vent on vegetarian cookbooks. When ever I look for a new cookbook like 80% or more of the books don't have the caloric break down of their recipes. And many of them are too high in starch (I often double to triple the veggies listed and half the carbs) and some are VERY high in fat (yogurt, butter, cheese). I recently checked one out from the library that looked good even though the calories weren't listed, but after taking it home, I saw the author had a LOT of fat - unneeded in the recipes. And... I REFUSE to cook vegan, I *heart* cheese

This month I'm on a vegetarian kick, and am thrilled the farmer's markets opened this month!

Well DH wants to go to the State one soon. But there is one north of me off of Six Forks that I think just opened back up (by Blue Jay Park) , and new one off of Six Forks very close to me at the North Hills area. I'm really excited about the North Hills one, as it's a nice place to walk around with the kids (DD LOVES the fountains) and am hoping it has a good selection. If not I'll bop over to the State one probably every other week as it's a drive, and the one up north weekly. I love fresh produce. I'm off to plant some soon, so maybe I'll check the guy you listed out for tomatoes.... YUM!
