Anyone tried this/know someone who's tried this?

I haven't belonged to a gym for many many months now and am looking for something that will challenge me and shake things up a bit. I've heard of a few guys that have done it and had some success, but not many females.

The principles of the program seem sound but so many fads come and go it's hard to tell what's really worth the money.

DF's father just did it--I have no idea how he had the time as he is a gyn. oncologist that travels a ridiculous amount. We just went on vacation with his family and he was talking about how much he loved it.

He said he gained a lot of muscle and lost about 10 lbs. He was in pretty good shape to begin with, though. I couldn't tell too much of a difference, but then again, I don't make a habit of checking out my future FIL

I've watched some of the workout videos that go along with it, though--definitely intense, especially for a woman. A little time-consuming too. I think the whole program is solid/legit, though.

If you haven't been active recently, I think it might be too much of a jump, and I would start out with something else, like Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred.

If you are relatively active though, I say go for it!

You may want to see if they hold a boot camp in your area--those are good as well.

I've seen the infomercials and felt myself being persuaded....and then I returned back to reality. LOL. If I was single or if the kids were older, I'd love a kick in the pants like this. It looks awesome. Now I have to integrate exercise around the needs of five people.

I'm really interested in your thoughts on this, however.

My trainer had me doing moves from this and encouraged me to buy it. Whatever buddy, that's what I'm paying YOU for. From the stuff he showed me it seemed okay, hard stuff though!!

I've got 30-day shred, and the anniversary edition of Tae Bo. Happy with those.

I'd try Chalean Extreme over P90X. I've done both and I like CLX more. The workouts are short, but intense. I've had better results with CLX than P90X. Both are from Beachbody.

Did you end up doing this? I'm somewhat considering it as something to do during the winter months...

I haven't bought it yet but am still considering it. I hear it takes quite a time commitment (like 1.5 hours per day) and I've just had too much going on this month to find that much time. Really I haven't had time (or felt well enough -- migraine attacks almost daily) to workout at all these past few weeks, which probably means I'm out of shape again, which probably means that even if I did buy the p90x I wouldn't be fit enough to do it . But I do still want to give it a try at some point.

We have it and it is really a great workout. I haven't done it since we moved but when I was working out both DH and I started to see the differences immediately. You have to get in shape in order to do the workouts!

What equipment do you need for the workouts?

Free weights, exercise mat, bands or pull up bar (we have the tension bands and those work well for me). He also uses a chair occasionally.

Dh has been doing this for about a month and has seen great results. He has dropped two pants sizes. I do some of the workouts with him (maybe 2 a week) and take the little one for walks or bike rides the rest of the week. The workouts are hard, but I enjoy them. The downside is the time commitment. Most of the workouts are an hour (the shortest is 45 mins, the longest is 90 mins).

I don't think you have to be in fabulous shape to start out (neither of us were). You just do what you can and slowly work your way up.

Hmmm...I may just do it later on then. DF's dad gave me the DVDs awhile back, so I wouldn't have to pay too much.

I really want DF to do it with me, but "he cant get too buff or it will interfere with his cycling"--

For the pull-up bar, what type did y'all get? I've seen the ones that just hook over the door frame which don't require you to screw anything into your wall, but I think I'd be a little nervous to have something suspended like that -- like afraid I was going to take down the whole door frame or something.

He can do the lean program.

We have the kind of pull-up bar that screws into the wall above the door frame. I think it might be from Beachbody. When you take it down, you can still see the two metal plates that attach it to the wall. Dh installed it above a closet door so you can't see the plates unless you're inside the closet.

I ordered it Sunday so it's not here yet. On another forum I am on I have seen the before/after shots of several of the women and they did amazing. I'm not in great shape to start (HELLO baby weight), but I am going to try to do this during their afternoon nap time instead of sitting on the computer like a slug.
