Houseelf--the key to Zumba is bringing your husband with you. This is what my mom does--he is so entertaining no one would ever watch her. See link about dancing dads on my FB wall.

      Marissa-
My training is going okay, but with all the calories I am burning running, I've totally thrown healthy eating out the window because I seem to be able to get away with it (and I am allowing myself to stress eat). I need to get my eating habits back under control before the training ends or I'm gonna be huge once I'm done!
Runners World ran an article several years ago that most low mileage female runners actually do overeat their running calorie deficit. <sigh> Twenty miles a week seemed to be the turning point when women quit overeating their deficit. I know that this is why baby weight took so long. It wasn't until I got serious about what I ate that the numbers started to move. (Which I'm already back up two pounds...damn my metabolism!)

Sooner Texan- the mental image of my hubby doing zumba is fabu!

I'm starting up again. Fell off for about a month & gained some weight back. The chocolate & pizza were good but I want to stop the gaining-comfort food trend. I can do it. I can do it. I can do it.

Marissa when's your half marathon? You ready?

I've got to try and run 2 hours this weekend (I'm uber slow so just increasing my time), right now I'm finally feeling like "okay, I might be able to do this come May 1." Although I admit I had to have a few attitude adjustments as 2 weeks ago I found myself saying "I don't want to run a stupid half marathon" during my long run.

March 27th. I'm as ready as I can be I guess! I've been slacking a little during the week, but I know I can physically finish. The longest run I have done has been 10 miles. I'm run/walking it, though--I just want to finish and don't care about my time.

This weekend I'm doing a 5K on Saturday and a triathlon on Sunday. I'm probably going to die on Monday, but it should be fun! Both are St. Patrick's Day themed and involve lots of green beer, etc.

Oh...and even though this is my 6th sprint triathlon, this is the first time I have actually TRAINED for it. Wahoo! I got a tri suit for Christmas--if I don't spend 10 minutes in the transition, I might have a shot at the top 5 in my age group.

                Damn.

Depending on how the 1/2 goes, I'm considering training for a Dec. marathon. Class starts in July. If I do it and still don't lose weight...ARGH

"Exercise has taught me what my body is, what it can do, and where anyone who tells me it's not good enough can go." - Alice Bradley

found this quote on a blog yesterday and it really spoke to me.

Ides - you CAN do it.

Marissa - my cousin ran a marathon and gained weight.

I will say it's been very frustrating, b/c I clearly have lots and lots of muscle underneath, but am reaching the point of skin/fat that just hangs. I'm healthier, and that is truly my goal, but I sure would like to like how I look in a bathing suit!

NOVA did an episode where they put novice runners through a marathon and talked about the science of it, addressing many of the same issues you're talking about here--only one of the women on the team lost weight, and it wasn't from the marathon training. I don't see where you can view the video online, but they do have the transcript up.

I am still not back on the dieting band wagon. I am watching what I eat, for the most part, which is the sensible way to do it, I guess. Last night, I decided that I really needed to get back on track (no pun intended) with getting ready for an upcoming 5k. I finally manged to run the entire 3 miles without stopping! I've never done that before. I am paying for it today because my legs are stiff, but I am hoping that if I keep it up over the next couple of weeks, it will get better and the actual run won't be so painful, mentally that is.
