  • Starting C25K today

Hopefully this will give me a boost. I downloaded the app and added my funkiest music. Hopefully, in 9 weeks I'll be a little more fit and will have shed some of my winter fat!

I'm going to start C25k as well, but I need to get my respiratory infection cleared up first. Go you!!!

Also, don't feel bad if you have to stay on a certain day a little longer. I've heard that some of the jumps can be difficult.

I found the last couple of jumps to be really hard. My sister and her hubby are both runners and will attest to the fact that each time they run, the first mile or so is the hardest. If you can't complete one of the workouts, try it again the next time.

The biggest thing? Don't run too fast. If I run any faster that an 11-12 minute mile I can't do it. If I go that slowly, then I can. Aim for jogging, not sprinting.

Thanks guys. I know that the respiratory issues will be my biggest battle. I was actually up to jogging (slowly) 4 miles last year before I had another run-in with my lung..unfortunately, the recovery from that (which I think was complicated by the neuropathy/fatigue etc) never got me back to the point I had been. I have made some attempts at walking/jogging and find myself feeling a little depressed that lung-wise I seem to be at a lower point than I was when I started my exercise program a couple of years ago. What I do know though, is that last time, regular exercise did help. If I let the walking/jogging go for 3 days, it started to revert back....so I'm hoping that if I very slowly and gently push myself I can get to a better point again. I just have to be prepared to go slowly, know that I'll feel frustrated and will struggle with the chest pain/shortness of breath/weird noises. I'm going to do it anyway and really hope that it brings me some recovery .... I don't think it can hurt.

I think it will help with your peace of mind. I know that I am less stressed if I exercise regularly. It seems paradoxical that adding one.more.thing. to an already busy schedule can make things better, but *shrug* it sure seems to do just that. Take care of your self *hugs*

I downloaded the app. I want to wait until DH is home to go try it out though. Just in case.

It was great. I feel really hopeful and positive. The workout was enough to help me sweat, push myself and not struggle as much with respiratory problems. I really feel good now that I did it. Only problem? I wore Shape Ups. My calves and butt are still shrieking at me in protest!

Good for you Kris! You've inspired me. I'm considering trying the C25K, but in the past I've really hate running, so I'm hesitant (read: afraid!).

I'm proud of you brave ones!

I've been meaning to start C25K for a couple years now. Silly me didn't even notice there's an app for that! I'm going to start once the weather warms up a bit. I also have respiratory issues, so running is not easy for me, but my BF is an avid runner, so I'd like to be able to join him one of these days.

                        WTG Kris!!!

So, C25K is an app that uses the outline of the C25K program to time your walking and running intervals and let you know when to walk and when to run while you listen to music on your iPod.

It's a great app! If you don't have an ipod here is a link to the program : http://www.c25k.com/c25k_treadmill.html

Way to go, all of you!

I have a question about C25K: I can run 5K now, but not every time and not very fast. The last time I did any real run training was middle school cross country (although I do work out). Is there a way to jump in midway to the C25K program, or is best to start right at the beginning even with some existing running capability? The website seems to indicate the latter.

Yay Kris! I'll make sure I wear my running shoes. My knees are so bad I have a hard time running in anything else.
