  • Weight Watchers vs. Ediets?

    Anyone done both? or either?
I've done Ediets twice. Once with a lot of success, then I got pregnant, and another time with little success...because I got pregnant again. So apparently it makes me get pregnant.
Anyway, I haven't tried Weight Watchers, but it is appealing to me because there is a little more freedom with what you can eat. Of course, this is also why I'm kind of scared of it.
Anyone care to make up my mind? lol

Isn't WW really expensive? I once gained 30 lbs (I keept eating like a teenager in my 20s) and I lost it all by eating half of my food. I would draw a line down the middle of my plate with the sweet and sour sauce lol at chinese and eat the other half for dinner. I had silly rules like fried food only on Fridays, no cake or soda unless there's a party, icecream only if it happens to be Sunday (sundae) but even then in moderation. I lost it all with no exercise, but of course we should do some kind of exercise for our health.

Are you breastfeeding? WW has a plan specifically for that, I don't know about ediets. Otherwise ... no dieting!!! Give yourself time. That baby isn't even a month old, is she?

I'm a WW girl. I lost 55+ before my wedding and of course gained some (but not all) back during my pregnancy. I started it again a few months ago and I'm already down 20+ lbs. It is really a lifestyle change and I had no problem maintaining my goal weight until I got pregnant with dd. As for cost, I pay $40/month for the monthly membership that lets me go to as many meetings as I want. They even let me bring dd in when I have no other care... and when I hit my goal weight again (and maintain it for 6 weeks), meetings become free for life. I highly recommend it. PM me if you have specific questions.

ETA: They do have accommodations for breast feeding (adds allowances for the increased caloric usage), although I had to wait until dd was over a year because if I tried to diet at all, my milk supply started to disappear.

She is 3 weeks old,and yes I'm BFing. I weigh way more than I ever have and I feel disgusting. Before I got pregnant I weighed about 15 lbs more that what I wanted, which was totally doable. I'm confident that I can lose 15 lbs. But now after the baby I weigh 15-20 MORE than before I got pregnant! Losing 35 lbs seems really scary. I've always been on the really small side of normal, and now I'm 10 lbs over weight! I think if I don't start something now I might lose my mind!
So I guess weight watchers is probably best then huh? Ediets goes by a 1200 calorie diet, at least last time I did it. Which worked really well, but maybe that isn't enough calories? I don't know..I feel like I have plenty of fat stores to use up!

1200 calories is NOT enough for a lactating mother. Cut yourself some slack, Zoe! You just.gave.birth. I know it sucks, especially when you're like, "What am I supposed to wear? Who is this person now?"

1200 is absolutely not enough calories! For me, I hold on to weight for the first 2-3 months, then it drops off kinda quickly until baby is about 6-9 months, then it slows. This is without watching what I eat.

Make sure you eat at least 1800-2000 calories a day...it takes at least 20 calories per ounce of breastmilk. If your newborn eats 20 oz per day then you need about 400 calories just for milk! That's not counting the additional calories you need to recover from birth, nor your normal daily requirement.

If you lose weight (non pregnant) at 1200/d, add 400 for milk and 200 for recovery and you are at 1800. You may need more depending on how your body works, but it's really really rare to need less when nursing.

I'm with Michele and Wildfin. I couldn't lose anything until my dd was not relying on my milk for her main nutrients and I gained 50+ during my pregnancy (eating healthy mind you...ridiculous metabolism). It will come off, just try to enjoy this time with your new little one and instead of looking at weight loss, perhaps look at adding new healthy habits that would make you feel better about yourself (walking with the girls maybe?)

It is hard and you also could be experiencing some of the postpartum hormone fluctuations and taking it out on yourself. ((hugs))

I've always been a little bit weight obsessed. Even when I was in high school and weighed 110 lbs I always thought I was fat. I really liked ediets because it gives you meal plans that are full of tons of veggies, so I always felt really healthy when I was doing it, even though it was a low number of calories. Agh, I just want my body back!!! I feel so weird like I'm wearing someone else's body.
I do exercise a little bit. Like taking walks and playing with the girls. As soon as little A stops needing to be held CONSTANTLY (literally)I will get back into actually working out. Hopefully that will help. ugh.

It won't use your fat stores. Your body will either drop milk production or won't produce "quality" milk. That's just not how it works.

PLEASE don't flip out over 35 pounds when you're 3 weeks post-partum. WW is an option, but you MUST do the version for lactating mothers. If not, then you're not only not going to help yourself, you're not going to produce good (or enough) milk for the baby.

I used Weight Watchers and lost about 50 lbs...but I used the old system -- not the new one, so I can only vouch for the old system.

I really thought it was very easy to follow and I was basically always satisfied. You get a set amount of points each day and then a weekly allowance of extra points. I always used the allowance on one weekend day (so basically took one day off a week to go nuts).

I am trying to get back on the WW wagon again as I have gained a couple since moving and being home all day with nothing to do...

Never done e-diets, but I'll tell you why I like weight watchers for me. You can eat as much fruits and veggies as you want (they are zero points). I feel like this encourages me to add fruits and veggies to my diet. I like to have some control over my food choices, and I like consistent results but I DON'T like counting calories, I hate it in fact. For some reason counting calories seems more limiting to me. I also like the accountability of weight watchers. If I could lose weight on my own I would, but for some reason I need to be paying and weighing in to stay on track. I also find that although the meetings point out the obvious, (like emotional eating), they force you to think about it and think of practical ways to CHANGE these habits. I also love, love, love, the recipes on WW.com, I've made many for my extended family and they'v always enjoyed them and never suspected they were "diet."
