  • Postpartum exercise

I went for a run today...I pretty much have not exercised since September. It's been 4 weeks since the baby was born and I'd like to start working out again, but I'm not sure how much is too much too quickly.

I ran today because I'm thinking about signing up for a 5k running class 3 mornings a week. I thinks it's doable based on how I felt today (it will be low mileage), but am I crazy? The baby has little semblance of a predictable eating schedule, but I can wake her up beforehand and feed her or leave a bottle of pumped milk for DH. I'll be gone 1.5 hours absolute max anyway.

I really want something to kickstart my workouts again!

In other news, my pre pregnancy workout clothes are NOT playing nice with my pp belly and nursing boobs

Good for you! I'm going back to the gym tomorrow. I don't know anything about the running, but I bet you'll do great!

Take GOOD CARE of your pelvic floor. Other than that...good luck and have fun.

Don't forget to get the all-clear to exercise from your provider.

My 6 week appt isn't until the 18th and the class starts Tues...that's sort of why I was asking. I guess I could call her. She told me to if I had any questions.

I would exercise based on how you feel. Take it slow at first. With my last, I started out too quickly and it caused me to bleed more and it was a little painful. I'm talking fast-paced walking within week of giving birth.

My appointment is Tuesday... I was just planning on doing the elliptical, which I did up until the day before DD was born. That should be okay, right?

Based on everything I could find online (because of course that makes it alright), you should be okay since, unlike me, you didn't sit on your bottom the last 3 months! I'm a little sore from the run, but it isn't anything awful. I did an awful job of resting the first two weeks after her birth (I was up and around the hospital room within hours) and definitely felt the effects of overdoing in the next week or so.
