I didn't have my acne really under control until...about 3 months ago

My daily regimen is as follows:
Wash face in shower with scent-free soap
When face is dry, apply Benzaclin topical cream
When that is dry, apply moisturizer

That's it. Done. I don't wash my face at night. I don't wear makeup (unless i'm going to some super-important event). I will still occasionally get one or two deep, painful pimples due to PMS, but I feel like that is to be expected.

    What do you do?

Here is what I do, and I now have zero pimples, and almost no blackheads (the ones that I do have are teeny tiny.) And I'm 40, and just got this under control a few months ago. Yeah, so much for acne being the bane of just teenagers. :/

    - Remove makeup at night with whipped unrefined organic coconut oil and a damp washcloth. Rinse and dry.
    - Use a cotton ball to apply iodine tincture.
    - Follow with a layer of jojoba oil. I've read that this closely mimics our skin's oil.
    - Morning: apply makeup if I'm going to wear it. No, I don't wash or rinse it. My skin isn't greasy anymore.

I quit using soap last summer, and that cooled down my oiliness and the acne, but it wasn't until I started the iodine that my face cleared and my skin actually looked nice. I do the iodine 5 nights a week, and on the other nights I still use retin-a for wrinkle prevention.

      *watching this thread with interest*

Ever since we moved 2 months ago, my breakouts have been constant. The only thing I can link it to is the extreme humidity down here. And they're always in the most conspicuous places -- normally around my mouth, or a whopper smack dab in between my eyes (like right now...). Awesome.

That was my MO before I went back to school and pfft. I would have thought it would clear up. I've also used retin-a since I was 30, and clearly that doesn't work for adult acne! Grr.

            GRU, what's benzaclin?

It's a compound with benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin

I use a facial cleanser by Alba - I forget what it's called, but it's specifically for acne. My SO swears that an acne product won't work unless it has salicylic acid in it.

Salicylic acid does not work for my skin. Tried for years and years - zip

Yeah, salicylic acid is horrible for my skin. It actually makes my skin peel. I use what my derm gave me, it's free of salicylic acid and keeps my skin clear from the few pimples I used to get every once in a while.

Yikes! Guess it's not for everyone. My SO says the salicylic acid makes her skin dry, which is why she follows up with some kind of lotion, but I rarely need lotion afterwards... sometimes I'll use a little coconut oil.

I'm pretty clear these days... I think regular use of retinol-containing night cream has helped a lot.

Salicylic acid products are the only ones I've seen any results with. Benzoyl peroxide does nothing for me.

I've been taking a low dose of minocycline for a couple years now and it's been helpful, but not a miracle worker by any means.

I think my big issue is not washing my face at night, especially since I wear make up most days. I tend to get lazy, but now that I'm in the midst of one of the worst breakouts of my life, I've been a lot better at washing my face at night.

My derm swears that acne around the mouth is hormone related. I'm always touching my face around my mouth so even though he is the one with the MD I tend to think it's cause I touch my face too much. LOL

I've switched from acne products to anti - wrinkle products. 8 ( But I do notice that on the days when I don't wash my face at night, even if I haven't worn makeup or moisturizer or sunscreen (IE in the house all day) ..... I still break out.
