I know DCJenn has mentioned an online yoga video. What is it?

I'd like to try it for flexibility and general strength combined with the weights and aerobics I'm doing. But I'm really a beginner and don't have time for a full video.

I think DCJenn uses Yogaglo. I do as well when I can't get to a studio. It's Kathryn Budig's studio's streaming classes website. There is a free trial followed by a monthly fee for use, though. http://www.yogaglo.com/

Because we should ALL be able to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loszrEZvS_k

Omg. That's what the instructor was doing yesterday! She gave all the easy ways but it was still beyond me. Only 2 other people were attempting it.

I'll check out yogaglo. Maybe I can learn enough forms to just do some routines on my own.

Michele, I would recommend going to at least couple classes before doing videos to familiarize with the positions if you're a beginner...it is really easy to do the positions wrong without realizing and getting an injury (I went to a huge free class (~200 people) where nobody was keeping an eye on positioning and injured my hip...I am also still trying to heal a wrist injury from yoga with my instructor's help. So far, it hasn't gotten better but I'm aware of the issues now).

A conscientious instructor will help you to position correctly so that you'll get the best stretch and do so safely when you end up doing it on your own...

ETA: nevermind, you apparently are already doing that...

Sheherezade...I love that video...and the couple one she did:

They make it look so easy! I have been yoga-ing for a while and I still struggle! I know that's years in the making, but seriously! Beautiful!

Oh, also, for beginning yoga..the Simply Yoga app is free and geared toward beginners...it's a nice learning tool! Limited, if any, inversions...

Holy moly! Although, I am strangely relaxed after watching the first one. The human body is amazing!

What does inversion mean? Is that the transitions? Because that's what I like. Moving slowly between forms. They just went so fast in the two classes I went to. I want it to be more meditative and less aerobic. I'll check out the app.

Inversions happen when your head is lower than your heart (headstands, etc.) I think you're referring to vinyasa yoga, which is a flowing style.

Satyananda yoga is very meditative and relatively slow, too. All about breathing and matching moves to breath and meditating. Not sure if there's anything near you or not, but you might look it up; it's definitely not aerobic, especially at beginning levels.

There are free videos on yogajournal.com and on YouTube also (like Yogatoday)

Look for a slow flow class. Vinyasa is "movement with breath" and basically they do a series of poses in a flow. In the Slow flow, same thing, slower pace.

Does anyone have any experience with Bikram? I'm creeping here, but I too would love to get into it, and there's a B studio less than a mile from my house...

I'm not a huge Bikram fan, only because the class is the same every time, and i love variety. If my studio offered it, I might take it every once in a while, but probably wouldn't join a Bikram-only studio. If you're a beginner, I wouldn't recommend Bikram, because it is pretty intense.

Our studio does Bikram but the 110 degrees (strike one), same poses every session (strike two), and no music (strike three) make me unenthusiastic.

Sounds like summer in Texas. I think, since I get overexposure to heat here, that I might benefit from a different style of yoga.
                              Thanks, ladies!
